Question HELP! How do I run a new fuel line???

HELP! How do I run a new fuel line???

On my 74 the fuel line is damaged inside the tunnel so I need to run a new line. I'm running a new 1/2" ID fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump which is above the rear driver side swing arm. So far I have run the line from the tank thru the firewall and.....and this is where I run into the problems. I've been wrestling around with her for the last few hours trying to get the line down the tunnel. I run into too much resistance just past the e-brake if I run it on the passenger side of the tunnel, and if I run it down the driver’s side of the tunnel it interferes with the throttle line. I can't get it down the original channel which is in the upper driver side.

What do you guys do? Do you run it beside the tunnel inside the car? I could do this as I have removed the complete interior. I was going to get a hole saw and put a 1" hole in the side of the tunnel at the front and rear of the tunnel and run the line inside the car. What do you think? What would you do.

Damn this little project of mine gets frustrating at times...

For safety if I referred to NHRA rules

"Fuel gauge lines in the driver compartment must be steel-braided with steel fittings."

Maybe that is what I’ll do.

Can you attach it to the old one and pull it through? 1/2" is pretty large. Stock lines are 8mm OD, which is just under 1/3" (at least for some years). -6 is all you need if you go to braided stainless. That is less than 1/2".

There are many threads, all of which say this is a *****.

Is your car CIS? I pulled two 6AN braided hoses (big) through my '75's tunnel without much problem, but maybe the tunnel is slightly different on yours.

What worked for me was a metal "fish" that's used to pull wire through conduit. I ran the lines on the right-hand side of the tunnel.

No it isn't CIS, I'm running a set of webbers on a 3.0. Yes i thought about the fish tape idea to help run the line hhhhmmmm

No The old line is pretty much stuck in place….

Maybe the 1/2" is a little over kill....

Does anyone know the conversion of 'an' to inches? I'm not familiar with this unit. I've been buying my line by inches ID

Thanks Mike...

PBH, I'm a little nervous about running it below the car as the fuel line would be the lowest point and the first to hit if I were ever too bottom out....but that would sure make it easier...

Yea, I'd rather have leak inside my car. There are lots of things lower, you'd have to bottom out the center of the pan.

Do a search for "tunnel" I posted extensive pictures of the inside of the tunnel. Should give you an idea of where it is hanging... Lou
