late brake rotor offset question
Hey everyone,
odd question, but... Does anyone know how 911 brake rotor, OFFSETS only, changed from '93 to lets say '02? I know bill verburg has a great brake info page, but it doesn't mention offsets. One of my sources has told me he thinks there is a difference, but isn't sure. I'm trying to avoid having to machine the adapters that came with my big reds, but they don't quite fit right. I run the rotors from a '93-'94 3.6L turbo which are 322mmx32mm The GT3 fronts, which I believe are also on the 996TTs are 330x34. I believe these dimensions would fit perfectly and get rid of my problem (pads stick over the rotors too much [1-3mm depending on the pad]). However, I don't know anything about the offset. Would they be the same, or would the rotor not fit anywhere near the center of my caliper if I switched? I was looking at the rotors on a 996TT last weekend at the track, and they look the same making cursory measurements on the car, but I just don't know. So, anyway, if anyone happens to know, or knows where to find this info, I would really appreciate it. Thanks

I dunno either but do let us know, best would be to trial fit one.
The 330x30 rotor may have trouble fitting the Big Red throat, dunno that either, never tried it. 2 piece rotors have a big advantage in weight and cooling efficiency. It's generally best to utilize them whenever possible, the o/s would generally be built into the hat and adapter. If the adapter is fixed then all o/s needs to be in the hub or hat.

Yeah, trial fitting gets a little expensive if it doesn't work though. I may end up doing that.
I was actually under the impression that the 2-piece rotors were heavier. At least I know the 993TT rotors are heavier than mine because the hats are steel.

Quote:
There are different 993 rotors some are hweavy and 1 piece others are lighter and 2 piece. The 322x32 2 piece tt rotors w/ hat and hardware weigh ~18#s. Thats not bad considering the punishment that they are capably of taking

I wonder if they made different models of the same rotor then. I've got an extra set of 993TTS rotors at the shop, and they're 2-piece but when we weighed them each side weighs about 4lbs more than a 1-piece... maybe the made the Turbo S rotors heavier for some reason? That's why I wasn't really interested in floating hats because if they're heavier what's the point.
Now, the aluminum hat rotors that came with the big red kit (330x32)only weigh like 10lbs each, but... they're pieces of crap, they make such horrible noise and vibration that my friend immediately pulled them off the car, which is how I got my big reds so cheap. I think I may actually try to talk to Brembo and see what they say about this, there's so much custom stuff out there, I bet they would have something that should fit perfectly
