Window problem - HELP.
Hi,
Last night my window on my 85 911 wouldn't go down, as though something was blocking it. Then I heard something rattling around. Taking off the door trim (with the help of a sublimely helpful thread I found on this subject), I found that the metal rail that attaches to the underside of the window pane that pulls/pushes the window had totally come off and was lying at the base of the door. Setting about to fix it, I could get the rail to push the window up, but everytime I tried to pull the window down, it would come off. Closer inspection of the rail revaled it is badly rusted (all that rainwater coming of the pane!) and was not able to clamp the pane. So I presume I need a replacement rail? Also, the window pane seemed to be reluctant to slide down the side recesses, so I wonder it this has contributed to the problem. A closer inspection showed that there was no blockage, so I presume you have to set the system up to uniformly clasp the pane across its length so it doesnt jar. My second problem - which can probably be fixed now the door panel is off - is that often when opening the door, after about 1cm of travel the door latch catches, and the door cant be opened. This requires either playing around with the release lever or using the key. Anyone know of any trick fixes that might resolve this? Could it be related to the position of the metal plate that the latch mechanism connects into? Any comments on both these issues most welcome. |

On the door lock.. I assume something needs adjustment or maybe the lock needs to be removed and buffed up?

**update**
OK, regarding the LOCK.
Had a good luck at whats happening. Of the lock mechanism, there is an upper part related to the handle, and a lower part related to the locking knob that mates with the car body. its the lower thing which I think may have a problem. If you look at the picture you will see a spring that takes the tension when the lock is engaged. What I think is happening, is that my spring is broken - not completely, but if you look at the picture there's a gap in it where the youngs modulus has been exceeded. Now I think all I have to do is get another spring like that one, and hey presto no problem. Apologies for the picture, should have used the macro feature. ![]() |

We started an e-mail thing so I have a scan of a P Tech paper for entertainment. If this is ng then pelican e-mail me after you hit "profine" at the bottom of this thread.
