1968 911L Engine Lid Seal & Light

My car did not come with this seal, so I ordered it and can't really tell how it should be installed. If somebody has a picture of their engine lid that included a picture of how this seal is installed, I would be very appreciative. I also purchased and engine light and am waiting for it to be delivered, but can't see where it should be wired. Please help!

Are you sure the L had them? I neither have a seal nor a light on the engine lid... nor do I have any wiring that suggests a light should be there. The only wiring I have in the lid is for the rear wiper I removed.

I basically looked at the catalog and also discussed with the guys at both Porsche and Pelican. They never said anything when I placed my order. Maybe it is an USA vs ROW. My car is the USA version. Do you have two license plate lights in your engine lid too? They are located at the very end on the back left and right of the lid? My car did not have them, but there are clearly holes for them, so I purchased them too. The seal mentioned above looks like it fits the entire back half of the lid, because it has two cut outs that make room for the license plate lights? I can't tell the purpose, because the way I am looking at it would not seal anything. The deck lid hangs over the rear license panel by at least two inches, so the way it looks like the seal should be installed, it would not bit anything but air.

Mine's ROW, and definitely has neither of those.

I do all my buying from Pelican, but for what its worth when I ordered the 911L maintennance kit, I got the wrong air filter (CIS one, not the round one), I got two sets of points (single piece, and the currect two-piece), and didn't get the distributor rotor, and the cap didn't fit without modification. The Fireball system I ordered, which is listed as fitting a '68 in fact doesn't without modifications... I just think when you're talking about a less common 38 year old car, you sometimes will get bad info even from the best sources.

Now one thing I do have is a rubber seal that seems to seal the bumper to the sheet metal the lid closes onto. Maybe thats the seal you bought?

Good advice - I hate getting the wrong stuff. The seal that you are talking about - where is it attached? The one I have is about two to two and half feet long and about two inches wide. It is not flat, but has a curved edge that looks like it contours to the engine lid and hangs over slightly with a slight reveal. I thought that it might come in contact with the back bumper horns, but the gap between the bumper horns and the engine lid it too great. It also has two cut outs that are the same size as the license plate light holes. That is why I thought that it would attach to the end of the engine lid. The only other seal that I have in that area was the License Panel seal - sealing the license panel to the body.
