water leak
...right above the pedal cluster. Water drops when it rains. What should I be looking for in terms of possible entry points?

check the upper driver side of your windshield..typical place for water to enter then serpentine its way to your pedals, etc. i replaced my windshield and rear window seals a cfew years ago..solved this problem.
