Engine tin paint - high temp?
As part of my motor rebuild I'm doing some detailing. I've decided on paint instead of powdercoating for the enigine tin to allow touch up later on. But wondering if I need to use high temperature paint? I know we're not talking about exhaust system type of temperatures, but there is a good bit of heat soaking off of the motor into these pieces. Any previous experiences you guys can share?

Por-15 is tough and can deal with clunking of ratchets.

I used POR15 on mine, but any decent paint is going to work just fine.

If you bead blast them, any good paint will stick. I used a high temp semi gloss black from AutoZone.

Powdercoated for sure, by the time you buy decent paint and do all the labor to paint it (hours & hours) you could have just dropped it off and had it powdercoated for about $60.00 - $100.00. Price varies ofcourse depending on where you live and from place to place, I live in an area that has at least 15 different powdercoaters so there is competition to keep price low and quality high.
You just cant beat the durability of powdercoating. Unless you are doing a complete to the detail restoration there is no reason to paint the tin just my 2cents- Jeff |

That might make him change his decision... I powdercoated mine.
But it will never look exactly like stock.

Thanks guys, all the parts are being blasted so I'll have nice, clean surfaces. I'll go with the Wurth high temp.

Yep, what Brian & others said. the first time that gas gets on your newly painted tin, you will be saying, 'why the he!! didn't I powdercoat this stuff?"
