Here we go. I assume you're referring to what the arrow is pointing out...

Why do you think you need to tighten it?

Looks like you have a broken head stud. Sounds like you need to do at least a top end (heads and cylinders) job on your engine. Do a search on broken studs or dilvar and you will find tonnes of info. Is the engine a 3.0 and how many Km on it.

Question

My French is so out of practice that I am having trouble forming my questions without a dictionary.

What is the year of your moteur?

This looks like your headstud nut is loose. I would check to ensure that the stud is in place and you can see the threads. If one stud nut is loose, I would recommend removing your valve covers and checking the torque on each nut. This would also be a good time to do a valve adjustment and oil change.

Was your moteur making any noise when you noticed the nut had become loose?

Si vous avez une questionne et trouve le traduction trot difficile, SVP m’écrire et Je Vous répondre. SVP pardonner ma Français !

hi, i have a 1981 911SC, but I bought this engine in england (it was not a problem with my perfect englisch ;-) ), this mean that i have now 2 engines, this one, on the picture is a 1983 year engine, 60 000 Miles
which means the same type as mine : 930/10

the pin (goujon in French) is not broken, but the nut is only loosened

If that is the case, I would do as David said and put it on and retorque the heads. If they all retorque, then replace what seals you can get to (thermostat, rear and front main, oil cooler ) while the engine is out. And then put it in the car and have some fun.

ok i will to do that thanks,

but an other question :

if i m removing my valve covers, can i change the studs with dilavar ? because in FRance i heart a lot of stories about broken studs on SC, and precisely at the low part of the motor.

is it possible ?

I am sure there are opinions on this, but I think the prevailing logic is to replace the dilvar studs with steel. Check and see if your studs are magnetic. If not, it would be a good time to replace them. But, I think you have to pull the heads off to do that.

Fabien,

Replace the studs with steel studs. They are cheaper and last longer. Of course, I'm assuming your keeping the car for a street car not a race car. In order to replace the studs you will need to start taking the moteur apart. Please purchase Wayne's 101 and re-build books from this site or Amazon FR.

I'm sorry, I did not mean to upset or imply your english was not up to par. I remember very well that sometimes we forget how to say things (goujon, I could not remember that for the life of me) from when I lived in Belgium. You don't even want to know what happened when I returned to Texas and people were staring at me funny until I realized I was talking in French. Waaaaaaaay to many years ago and my French has suffered terribly in the land of no European languages.

La Belgique ma manquer!

David,

Stay away from Belgium with fast cars... it's not the same it was years ago; many speeding camera's were put up the last three years.
