So how is RBRDUK?

Glad you asked

I know I am asking and answering my own questions now.

Some might have caught the fact that we "finished" up my car at 1am last Saturday night. I then drove it the 20 miles home and way too early that same morning drove the 7 miles to our annual show. It poured rain all day Sunday...I went home and took a good nap. Monday the car was back at the shop finishing up the detailing. Things like hard wiring in the Valentine, replacing switches and adjusting the fuel cell gauges were still to be bedone. Had the muffler ceramic coated, added stone guard, and did an alignment. It has been a busy week.

Late last night was the first time I had to really drive the car. Here are my first impressions on that hour's drive.

The factory '95 3.6 is said to make 5 times less noise than a '73 factory 2.7. Hard to believe. I have to admit it might be true. My car sounds more like a new 996 with sport pipes than my old 3.4 with a SSIs and a 2//2 sport exhaust. 3.6 is very quite in the cabin, you can now talk at 100+mph. Outside you can a talk standing next to the car while it is running. Not something easily done before. It is really amazing the difference in noise. At 7K rpm you can still talk in a normal voice in the cabin. Glad I saved the stereo system for the long drives!

Interior? The interior is still not done to my satisfaction. But I did find out that may have been a blessing. I tried my Pole Position with no inserts and really like being lower in the seat. New inserts will have better foam and be thinner. Never would have tried that! If you have a Pole Position seat you want to try this.

Suspension? I thought I had a great suspension before. All poly bushings and sport shocks with 22/30 Sander's bars.

This time we put in mono balls and Elephant's poly bronze. Nice set up indeed. But what you really feeeeel is the WEVO spring plates! Car feels like we changed shocks and added high profile tires to soften up the ride compliance.

I was running 225/45s in front and 245/45s RA1s in the back, sport shorts and big bars. Car handles better and is amazingly compliant...feels soft for a hard sprung Porsche, softer than my wife's BMW with a sport suspension.

I have no connection to WEVO and I didn't get Hayden to approve this message. I am sure to get in trouble but the secret is out...WEVO has clearly hit a home run again with these spring plates. And they aren't even taking orders for them yet. Get in line is my suggestion.

Rain gutter delete? No issues with water if you wipe off the roof before getting in the car in heavy rain and are careful where you stop getting out of the car in heavy rain. It is water tight other wise. Yes there is less cabin noise loosing the rain gutters and the mirrors. At 100mph it sounds like the fresh air blower is on. I had to check the fan twice last night. So you have an idea of what teh cabin is like at 100 now. Just turn your new fresh air fan on medium in the garage.

Added a 19" wiper to the single arm left on the car. Oh, ya!

Delete mods are great if done right.

For those that haven't kept track here is my hit list on best improvemets to be made on an older 911

Pole Polsition seats
19" wiper
NH gauge set
hard wired Valentine
Momo Mod7
'95 3.6
all the WEVO bits is the tranny
Poly bronze and WEVO spring plates
SO3 or RA1 tires

Given the same set of bushings (Elephant Poly-Bronze) on the stock spring plates and the WEVO spring plates, what is unique to the WEVO product to allow for a more compliant ride?

Sounds great.

Did you ever find a leather momo Mod 07? I bought a Mod 8 that I need to install & try out as I couldn't find a leather 07 (suede only) but prefer the 07 design & think the 08 has even more dish (too much?).

Yes, we have two cars set up identically, alsomost the weight with in a few pounds +/- less that 100#. Same engine and suspensions except for the spring plates. One has standard '86 Carrera plates the other the WEVO...no comparison on ride quality.

Feels like I have standard T bars now instead of 30s and 60 Series instead of 45s as a comparison.

Leaving in a few hours for a hill climb...pictures will have to wait sorry. Lots of hem already posted under my user name. Fuel cell prices have sky rocketed. I wouldn't pay what they are asking now. I bought mine from Performance Products at $500. less than what they quote now.

Mod 7 in leather I got from Rally Nuts in England. 4 days shipping time, point of sale to my door and less monety that the saude one here in the US. Google them.

I'll do a detail and pics on the wiper motor mod when I can.

Till then...shift slowly, drive fast

I believe the original question was asking for a comparison of stock plate w/ elephant bushings and the wevo plate. Are you saying the 86' Carrera had stock plates with the elephant bushing or just a stock plate?

Keep in mind we're only talking about springplate bushings here.

Carrera had all the elephant bushings/mono balls and OEM spring plate with the elephant spring plate bushing.

SC had all the elephant bushings/monoballs and additionally wevo adjustable spring plates and bearings.

Both have sport shocks , 22/30 Sanders bars and are right at 2100# on 8 and 9" Fuchs with 225/245 tires.

There is a signifigant ride difference that you feel in everyday driving between the two. Have yet to be on the track with the wevo setup.

rdane,

Are the wevo spring plates for sale yet or is your still one of the preproduction models?

Just wondering purely from the sound perspective do you now favour your 3.6 over your 3.4?

Glad your ride has come together so nicely. Pics?

Simon

As well would like to see some photos after the dust settles! Looked nice in the early posts but once you get it finished should be really sharp.
