what's going rate on an 84 3.2 carrera engine, 98K miles?
Hey all
Just checking to see what this is worth, with the DME & exhaust, a drop-in. Engine is a great runner, probably needs some maintenance, but runs like a top, with the typical 3.2 95K minor oil leaks ![]() Getting the itch for more power. Thanks in advance.

If you find the right buyer I think you could get $5500, and would say that it would go fast at $4500. Documentation of everything really aids in getting a higher price, and it depends on the maintenance that you are talking about. Also I think it would be easier to sell running in a car. I was a bit uneducated when I bought an '89 3.2 w/ DME and Exhaust and I paid 5500 with a quoted 62,000 miles. But in hindsight I feel like the sucker that was born that minute. Exspecially when I tore it down, found it had been rebuilt and that the intermediate gear was all chewed up.

Thanks Rich..... I was thinking 4500-5K was probably fair... I would sell it in the car though, there's something about an engine on a pallet that makes people paranoid
![]() thanks, DMA

Its a 20+ year old engine now. If you have never had it apart, at 100K and out of the car, it's probably due for a top end rebuild at a minimum.
I have a 3.2 in an early car and I love it. That transplant was done a decade ago, with a 7 year old 25000 mile engine. The 1987 engine cost about $7500 at that time. If I were to do it today, I would get a 3.6 within about the same age/miles range, for a bit more money.. I would say that if you can get 4 to 4.5K for it, you can sell it with a clear conscience that even if the new owner does an overhaul it's a fair value.

it's probably going to use some oil at 100K, worn guides you know. 3.2s are kind of known for that. $5K won't look like such a good deal when you have to do a valve grind.
