Uh-Oh... I broke it (Digital A/C upgrade?)
Okie Dokie.
During a re-installation of my center console, I happened to let the gas out of the line going to the a/c thermostat control. (Ok, I broke the line right in half.) After listening to the short Hiss, and breathing in some offish smelling odour, I sighed, then came in the house to pour me a drink. I have not got into my A/C project too far yet, as most of my parts havent arrived yet. But, before I start ripping out the evaporator, can anyone help me out? Is the thermostat relatively simple to replace, or am I going to curse the day I removed my console for the rest of my life? Any tips or tricks here? Anyhow, I am not too big on keeping things period correct or the such, so I was thinking of doing something "cool" (Lol) with the A/C controls. Once upon a time, I saw that Vintage Aire made a digital control for their systems, although it isnt on their site. (I emailed them, but dont expect a response for a day or 2) Anyhow, has anyone upgraded their a/c (Or heat for that matter) controls to something resembling current-day climate control? I am not afraid of wires and circuits, so if anyone has any ideas, toss 'em out there! |

Another thing. (As I am not going back out to the car tonight)
Do these cars use a WOT (Wide Open Throttle) switch? If not, I think I may design a kit.... Anyone added such a beast if not? Anyhow, for those of you that don't know, a WOT switch or system is on many (Most, if not all??) newer vehicles. Under heavy accelleration (Wide open throttle) the system will automatically turn off unneccasary accessories. (Such as the A/C compessor. My Honda actually disconnects the alternator load I read somewhere) Therefore providing more engine power to the wheels for that brief (Ok, not so brief for a lot of us) moment the "pedal is to the metal". |

Maybe this could be made to work.
