Source for information on old RUF 930's please
Anyone know a good link for info on old - mid 80's 930 either built by RUF or converted to RUF specs.
Were there many cars built by RUF in these years or are they mostly enthusiasts buying the RUF engine/tranny's and then modifying the rest of the car to certain specs? Does a 930 have to built by RUF to be genuinely referred to as a 'RUF Porsche', or can it be conciderred a RUF Porsche if it just has the engine/tranny? Or is this just a vague area? I have seen a RUF porsche advertised and am curious to get some background info before even proceeding further (esp. as it is not cheap!) Thanks for any help Ben PS I have checked the RUF website- but only recent info!

I believe, Ruf is recognized in Germany as a manufacturer, and gets bodies from Porsche. Once he has done his magic, they are assigned a Ruf VIN number. A genuine Ruf conversion will not have a Porsche VIN number.
I have sent messages to Ruf to find out info on my car, but they never reply. My car was converted at the Ruf factory in Germany by the previous owner, I consider my car a Ruf modified Porsche.

I believe there are two real ruf scenarios. As you mentioned they take shells with no vin number and build their own cars with their own vin numbers. The second are cars with Porsche Vin numbers that RUF then converts but they maintain their Porsche VIN numbers. Of course there are many cars that have RUF mods but not full conversions.

Trader 220 is correct...
.. not to preach, but....let's do some research before we post , guys...people come back to this board after many years to find "definitive" answers. We all stub our toes at times, but let's be more careful.... PS-- I also don't get reponses from the RUF HQ, even though I "help" out by trying both my broken German followed up by my English in my Emails. Strange that they ignore as often as they do .. ![]() Wil

I was hoping there might have been more definative specs for RUF cars through the ages. Something that cars could be compared with for originality- if there is such a thing.
But it appears that the Ruf models do not have specific modifications and are personalised in their customisation, that they are perhaps the RGruppe of 911 Turbos!? I dont have a problem with any of this, its just more difficult to try and put a value on something which has no comparison! I have seen an ad for an '86 Ruf 930 which has low miles (less than 40K) I am trying to get more specs, but in the meantime was trying to do my own background research. Sometimes enthusiasts create their own personal websites with collected info. Thanks for the feedback Rgds Ben
