Dansk Dual Muffler TOO Loud - What Can I Do?

Just installed a new single in - dual out muffler on my 88 Cab & man, it's loud.

Is there any way I can reduce some of the noise & Keep the following:

The Same HP gain?
The original (dual) look?

I switched from a factory Carrera exhaust to a single in dual out Dansk and if its *that* loud you have a problem with it...

Sure it is not leaking?? - I found the Dansk to be tame - much more so than the RUF Dual out Sport...on my 84 3.2

My Dansk was just right. Not too loud in the cockpit, but a nice rumble on the outside. I agree with the thoughts above, if it is too loud, you may have a leak. If no leak and still too loud, then take it off and get something quieter. Earplugs work great too!

It is possible that you have a leak at the seam where the 2 halves of the banana can is welded together. If you look at the factory Bischoff muffler there is a continuous flow weld all the way around the seam of the muffler. Not so with the Dansk...the lip is spot welded together every few millimeters with multiple spot welds to hold it together at the seam. Clearly a faster and cost cutting way to weld the unit together. I received one of them that had a 2" long section at the seam that you could pass a .020" feeler gauge through to the inside of the muffler. The spot welds never pinched the seam together in this area, probably due to some hunk of weld slag or crap on the metal, hence the leak. The Dansk rep was kind enough to work with me on it and get it resolved, but I still ended up zipping the seam on the backside of the replacement one shut with my tig welder. Suffice it to say I will not be to quick to purchse another Dansk...yet I honestly haven't seen and non-factory units that really impress me with fit and finish either. Outside of the factory equipment I really question quality control from some manufacturers.

What you could do is have a SS fabricator fab a delete for one side of the exhaust.
I run a Borla dual in quad out.
When it is open, man she screams, but there also is alot of ressonance in daily driving. What I did was I took the muffler to a local fabricator and he created a cap that I am extremely happy with.
I capped the passenger side, which eliminated the ressonance, but still has a great sound to it. and when I want, I can take it off and wake the neighbors.

You guys are killling me. this topic has been shoed to death in the past. the monty muffler is the best for quality, cool exhaust tone and sound,
minimal cock pit resonance and is the official dyno tested and approved muffler for true power band and torque with accountable horse power gains and is the muffler of choice from makers of SSI of Novato, Californa... but i still love ta read how the other mfg's are still making what they make.

I dont believe he has a leak. Mine's also loud - for me. Sounds great gunning it, but at low/mid rpm you have to raise your voice slightly to have a conversation.

I would like to try a Monty, but for the $$$ the Dansk is hard to beat.

As RickM noted tailpipe inserts will be cheapest. You will likely lose some hp - if you want to know how much - then measure.


antares noted that a switch to the Monty is the real solution - tho it is not cheap. You could sell the old used muffler for __? $150 maybe? $200?

I have not seen dyno data on Ben's muffler - it looks good and is about 1/2 the price of the Monty. It's worth investigation. For the price you could buy it, test it, and if unhappy not be out too many sheckels - plus you could resell it as only slightly used.
