Should I get new Injectors???
Before I take the trip to Taj, I have known that Kermit was running Rich -- too rich, so after trying to have the injection pump leaned out, my mechanics gave up and decided that the injectors need replacing. Considering that I am getting 9 mpg, I am interested in doing whatever is needed to get it running right. Apparently the MFI pump is OK, it is just the injectors.
So they are quoting me $109 per injector, and another $300 in labor to put them in, and another $305 to adjust the MFI when they're done, plus a new set of plugs. I know that the car has sat for a long time before I got it, I just wasn't planning on this at this stage. But he is running really really rich, and I wanted to get this fixed. If my mileage goes up significantly, it's worth it. Comments? larry

Larry,
You can send then for testing at pacific Fuel Injection and have them tested. Under $10 per. I would recommend this as if your injector is not working properly you can be harming your piston and cylinder by washing the oil away with the unburned fuel. Just part of getting your car up to snuff really. Good luck. Bob |

I would think just about any fuel injection service could test these for you, check around.
Also, these injectors can be cleaned as well. This might save you from buying a new set.

Cleaning is part of the testing. Most likely you would not have to buy a whole set. Pacific's price was competitive but of course there are others. Check Pelican's MFI tech section.

Well, I felt under pressure, of my own making. I hate to take my car to a shop, and after having them diagnose the problem, say "OK, thanks for checking it out, I'm going to do the work myself." But that's my own problem.
They said that they pressure tested the injectors and they were not running right, and they looked all pitted, and after they tested them, they just continued to drip. Which sounds like they need to be replaced. I have asked them to put the injectors in a bag for me to take home, and maybe I'll send a few out to be cleaned and tested. That will possibly confirm the honesty or the thoroughness of the shop. Not that I really wanted to spend $1,300 on this right now, but . . . . . . . . I'll keep you posted. larry
