Thanks for taking the time to document this...After restoring a few dozen cars over the years, I know what a pain it can be to stop and take photos along the way.

It's always nice to see someone take the time to save an old beauty like yours.....and you are doing excellent work.....Cant wait for more of the saga...

Thanks again....

Tomy,
You are doing great work! It is encouraging to many to see this car come slowly back to life. Can not wait to see the finished product.
How about some wide shots?

Tomy, I looked at purchasing this car too from John M. in January! Good thing I didn't, as I'm not capable (skill and financial-wise) to fix her properly as you are doing!

It looks like she will be a great one when she is finished. I ended up buying the IDENTICAL targa (black, early sport seats, same chrome wheel trim, etc.) but a 911T model (not comparable to the S though). Best of luck!

Hi Coldstart

Yes form John M. he,he funy live is so funy. It was nice to make deal with him as well. Sent some picture of your 911 to me.
My idea was to drive this car a little before rebuilding, but I decide to rebuild it as fast as possible to have 100% original and ready to driving.
Of course it will cost twice as I expected (but I expected twice factor as well)
So I Happy that I have particularly this car.

Tomy, I haven't yet taken any photos of my car, but the previous owner had his at www.picturetrail.com/911targa

It has the deep tint (don't like it but it isn't as bad as in the pictures), the Zenith carbs (like a lot!), and it runs really well.

Today It looks like I need two weeks to finish body work. Last body part arrive - postlook left side. I trying to rebuild both front wings as I write before. New ones cost here more than 1500$ each. I count that rebuild will be cheaper but of course much more work on it. I count 3 days on each extra.

meantime I take off suspension (front) and rebuild it fully with Elephant Racing parts instead of polygraphit or rubber bushing. I make sand blasting and powder coating all suspension. Hope that on Friday will start do assembly suspension and make pictures.
Also meantime (after sand blasting) I am sure that I have boge struts

see struts parts after blasting

will see what happen tomorrow....

28.07.05 part II

First like to have your opinion : should I continue my rebuilding history in one thread or finished this one when body work is done and start next one when start preparing to paint?

Now see how looks rebuild suspension:
here looks just taken apart from car:

And here you are renew I have sanded it and powder coated twice with first layer phospore base paint. See Elephant Racing bearings instead rubber :

see also : all hardware are new and Porsche original :suspension is suspension and I like to drive sometimes over 100 mph so like to now that I can trust myself and suspension too.

Tomy,
I would suggest a new thread, as the serious qty of pics makes this a slow load, even on a fast link.. We will find you, don't worry!!!

Hi
I don't mean to be the party killer here, but although these are fundamentally good things to do to your 'S' I'm not sure you are thinking about the nasty, insideous aspects of rust enough.

There is a whole heap of rust remaining within the pannel laps of the factory spot welded parts. This 'S" has a fair to severe ammount of corrosion. There is lots remaining in all the cavities you are sealing up. There is residual on the panels themselves and there are pockets of potential rust forming behind and within the patch pannels themselves.

I love the enthusiasm with which you are approaching this project and wish you the very best, but RUST IS NASTY and needs meticulous attention to detail. I only say this from having faced the full fury of FEo2.

rust subject

Before I sealing it was fully strip to barre metal later acid clean before I put sealing compound. I am crazy abut rust so I twice check before I put sealing.
By the way before sealing it is inspected against any spot of rust . But I know that I cant be 100% sure but at least 98% will be success

I will publishe more picture on monday
