Can The Person Who Rebuilt Their Sunroof Please Step Forward!

First, thanks for taking the time to read my post. My last post on the sunroof fittings was received with no responses.

I am not sure just how those metal pieces that fit the sunroof panel that help to raise the roof to the proper position are configured. I believe I have the forward panel pieces on okay, but the rear pieces (four of them) are not allowing the roof to rise up and seat properly. It seems no matter how I reverse, switch or move around, I just cannot get it right. I feel like a jerk for not mapping it out before taking it all apart.

If you have a schematic, photo or can advise in any way, I am very grateful.

Thanks
Bob

I took mine apart and put it back together a couple of weeks ago. Didn't sucessfully fix anything while I was there, though! I have a 1982 SC -- not sure if your vintage has the same sunroof. Nonetheless, I'll put out my Bentley and scan any schematic I can find and post it when I get to work in a little while.

You can look in the Pelican Parts catalog online for sunroof parts, and it often has helpful schmatics.

Thanks
The main problem is the way the pieces fit toward the rear of the panel. I would think that the early models are pretty much the same as the SCs. The only difference I have seen is the connecting piece between the transmission and motor.

Any port in the storm as they say.

Thanks much for any help.

Not sure what you are asking. Are you referring to the rear mounting "arms" which are notched & interface allowing the height of the roof to be adjusted or the plates which attach to the roof itself & which the above pieces attach to?

Mike
Their are the forward pieces (4 altogether) that attach to the front of the panel on each side and the rear pieces (2 each) on each side of the panel. They all slide with the panel. If they are nort configured right (which goes on top of which or is attached to which) the sunroof will not close properly or better yet slide up on those little plastic incline pieces and seal properly.

I definitely screwed it all up by not mapping out the pieces as to where they go back in place properly. Its a case of getting a simple diagram or any photo's where someone displayed greater wisdom then I on getting it back together right!!

HELP!

Bob

Bob;
Ron has posted a schematic of how the thing goes together. You will need to get it together & then check the closed height. Front should be level or slightly below roof line & rear should be slightly above roof line.
Adjustment in the front is with the thumbscrews which the bolts thread into & rear adjustment is via the arms on the cable end. It's pretty much trial & error to get it right.
I got the front done & then pushed the roof closed, loosened the screws on the arm on 1 side & pushed the roof up while my assistant verified sunroof height. Then I tightened the screw & moved to the other rear side & repeated the process. When this was done, I connected the motor , actuated the roof & verified proper operation & alignment.

Sunroof, I'll still post the larger schematic later this morning, in case you have other questions. If you get everything working, let us know!

For further information: Part 37 of the schmatic is the plastic clip (there are two) which raises the wind deflector. It is a common thing to break after 20 yrs of use. If yours is broken, not to worry, these are available at the dealership.
