This is the intro of Le Mans!
What other celebrity could be so cool that he/she could be the next James Dean, Steve McQueen and be a icon for Porsche? That's my point, there isn't any. ![]() Quote:

Got a funny Steve McQueen story from my dad circa 1971...
Back in high school, my dad and his brother decide to cut class and head up to Indian Dunes (now closed motorcycle park in CA) for a little riding (my dad still has his old Suzuki TM400, btw, how people ever raced bikes that dangerous is beyond me) They get out on the track, and my dad is doing laps when he notices a guy on a Husky pacing him. He keeps running laps and they start to have a little fun, weaving, cutting each other off and such. After a while, they pull in and he takes of his helmet and there's Steve right in front of them. They are blown away and start chatting with him for a bit about bikes and such. My dad said he had this cool thing in his van where he opened a door and pulled out a hose to fill up his bike. He also said that his brother said possibly the most stupid thing to Steve... "Dude, I think the best movie you ever did was the Blob!" Granted he was probably stoned when he said this.... My dad said that Steve just busted up laughing at that comment.. |

Here is a good read about McQueen.
http://www.turnerclassicmovies.com/ThisMonth/Article/0,13196,93583,00.html A short story. Back when Le Mans was released a friend of mine n junior high worked at a local theater where is was playing. He was always letting the gang in for free. I must have watched that film a dozen times. Could be a record for seeing it on the big screen. Probably helped fuel my love of cars and certainly for Porsches.

I believe that the 917 McQueen drove at LeMans will be at the Mission Historics this weekend (May 28/29) and will be leading Porsches (featured marque this year) around the track for a few parade laps. I'll probably attended Sunday for the parade and the BBQ.
Cheers |

Just met the owner of that very S car pictured above. He is a judge in Torrance. I was selling a T car reputed to have been originally owned by Mark Gerragos. He said oh yea I know Mark, I'll give him a call and ask. Haven't heard back from him yet. Small world.

No doubt, Steve was the coolest.
But TCM can apparently air it first Saturday June 1st and then encore it Friday June 3rd. Time Shifting...now that's really cool!
