Squeak in driver rear

I have a squeak in the drivers rear. Driving the car, it sounds like a squeaky seat and when you push down on the car from the outside it sounds like it is behind the rear wheel.

Is it a bushing or wheel bearing? I think bushing, but I am some what of a newbie on the 911. If it is the bushing, what is the best one to replace it with?

It's taking all the control I have to not make a smart aleck comment about a "squeak in the driver's rear"...besides, this forum is too mature for that sort of thing.

Sorry I couldn't resist.

Seriously, sounds like the bushings. First, ou can try a spray lubricant first, something with a nonsticky residue like tefon.

Re: Squeak in driver rear

hey, what you do with the rubber-ducky is your own business.

okay seriously... "it sounds like it is behind the rear wheel."

Do you mean, in front of the rear wheel?

If the squeak is behind the rear wheel, you may need polybronze bumper bolts. (tic)

I did not even think of it like that, that is funny. I guess I need some oil on my rear! No, wait.

Will strawberry jelly work to put on the bushings?

What is the time needed to replace these? I would like to do all of them when I do it.

Also, what would most shops charge to do something like this.

What?

I don't want to open a can of worms like......take the tire off, take the brakes off, pull the bearing, pull the axle, replace the boots............etc.

What's the KISS method on this one?

Where do I squirt the teflon?

You might also want to check the sway bar links and bushings for friction.

I was thinking about bushings and typed bearings..............I hate when I mix the two up.

If it's coming from the spring plate bushing, and its an original rubber bushing, then the likely cause is metal-to-metal contact between spring plate and spring plate cover due to a deformed bushing. You can see this visually from the outside. In this case grease is useless, you need new bushings.

If it's a plastic spring plate bushing, there is your problem. Replace them.

If it's coming from the sway bar bushing, grease may provide temporary relief but you should just replace the bushings - they are cheap and easy.
