wiper challenge - anyone have an idea/
so last night, in a major rain, my wipers stopped working. I was driving the future Mrs. back from the airport about 100 miles from my place.
good thing I have a habit of using rainx! anyway, I checked the fuse, the fuse connection and both are fine, also. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1117817733.jpg I have power to the switch also. fuse panel connections are good http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1117817872.jpg Before I go and remove the fresh air blower to get to the wiper motor has anyone got an idea about what I should be looking for? The car has been very well maintained but the wiper motor is probably 30 years old now... |
Remove the speedo and/or clock and try jumpering the wiper connections directly. When I got my '77, the wipers would blow the fuse in the first position, but not the others. Turned out the relay had been mis-wired, and I was able to fix it from the passenger compartment.

James, You will be able to access the wiring points to the motor behind the speedo and clock. I would look there to see if you have voltage. If so, the motor probably gave up. you could try to turn them on and force the wiper by hand to see if its "stuck'. Another thing to check is that hte linkage is not binding.

thanks guys, I will check that.
I was manually triggering them when the suddenly wouldn't work? strange huh. I will pull those bits and see what that gets me. The urgency is that if I can't fix this I'll have to take my old truck to run her back the airport and that for 250 mile round trip ain't fun! too slow, too much fuel. anyway, let me examine that area and see what I find. BTW what does a wiper motor run these days anyway? |
it's fixed!!!
so I removed the gauges as recommended (thx Jamie)
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1117925075.jpg and before I could even get the power tested grounded and ready I saw the ground plug at the wiper motor and noticed it was not connected  http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1117925147.jpg it's nice when a job is that easy! thanks for the tips fellas. while I had the tools out I mounted some new bling to the decklid. Not sure if I am sold on this look but you guys let me know what you think. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1117925288.jpg when the new engine is in a 3.6 emblem will be added to the free space towards the right side. |
if anyone has an idea on how I could get the grill in this decklid chromed please let me know.
|
Great you found the issue...Don't ya' just love it...
Also, I noticed that you mounted your badges directly over the center of the grill. Careful not the inhibit too much air flow to the A/C condensor under the grill. Many folks mount badges to the upper right or left...minimizing the interuption of air flow. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1117928865.jpg |
thanks. I don't have a/c so I don't think this should be a problem. Also, since it is a 964 tail I can deploy it and get more air

Don't tell me that you retro'd a 964 tail. How in the hell did you do that...Don't answer that....I know it was quite involved and I'll search the threads....
thanks |
