911 Sc A/c

Hi ,

I have a 1979 911SC and was wondering if anyones knows how I can install A/C (Its never had any) , Which parts do I need, are there any full kits available with everything I need ?

If anyone can help it would be great !!! :)

A/C add on.....

The easiest way would be to find a donor car in a recycling yard and get what you need off of it. For an SC you will need the following parts:

rear condenser
front condenser w/fan and relay
evaporator coil, fan, relay and mounting box
dryer (should use new only)
hoses
console insert w/switches (temp control and fan speed)
compressor w/mounting bracket and belt
double belt crank pulley
miscellaneous mounting clips and brackets
sub harnesses for the wiring.

Installing A/C can be time consuming and aggrevating but is "do-able". The old hoses are probably going to be too stiff and brittle plus you will want the newer barrier type hose anyway. You can buy a new set of hoses for $3-400.00 or buy the bulk hose, cut off the old fittings and have them re-swaged for about $150.00.
Also, get a rotary compressor if possible. The original York type piston compressor is too heavy and vibrates too much. When I replaced the hoses and compressor on my '80SC I used a Sanden 507 which is not a true rotary but is smaller, lighter and runs much smoother. They are available at a very reasonable price. You also need to decide if you are going with R12, R134a or some other refrigerant. I used the R134a and am happy with the results.

Good luck with your "cool" project.

I can get you the vast majority of this stuff that I pulled off of my SC.

I have everything except the front condensor, evap box, and blower. I would love to offlaod the rest all together. I can also pull out the switches, relays, and wires.
