Tell me about the paint in this pic please

I am thinking this looks like a sloppy repaint tape line, can an expert weigh in please?

Looks to me like an "aftermarket" sticker stuck over the factory VIN sticker on a Euro model car that was brought into the US.

I guess I am not being clear here. I am talking about the line below the crease in the steel that’s below the sticker. It appears to be a tape line where the white below it is new paint the rest of the door jamb is old paint.

I see what you're saying. The paint in the jamb sure looks good for a 25 year old car. Hard to tell, but my guess based on the pic is that that is not a tape line.

I agree that is not the best place to mask off a line, but it's an easy fix if you can get some of the paint. That's what detail guns are for. A better place to mask would have been in the "crease," however I suspect you would have balked at that, too. You wanted the jambs completely done, didn't you?

This is a car that I am going to look at later today> I want to be armed with as many opinions on specific issues as I can get so when I discuss the car with the owner I can have some evaluations on how he portrays the car. In this case if he says it’s never been repainted I can get a bead on the guy’s honesty.

As a guy who has done a lot of welding in this area...LOL...

The area I think you are refering to is where the quarter panel wraps around the drivers door post/jamb metal. It is spot welded, then "seamsealed" at the factory. Depending on the year produced, and the guy doing the work, this can be very neat, or a little sloppy.

Just a guess, but from the pic, it looks good.

I might look in other areas, like under weatherstripping. Thats a great place to repaint up to. Also check out the underside of the car for overspray....very common to see evidence there. Also under the drip gutter that surrounds the engine compartment.

I don't think he's talking about the obvious seam. I think he's talking about the very faint line between that seam and the edge of the opening.

Thanks for the opinions guys, it’s a ROW car which he some how sent me an “autocheck” on. Of course I can’t run a carfax on it since it’s a ZZZ VIN number. The auto check shows a mileage number higher then the odometer shows and I can bring a mechanic to see the car but I can’t have the car brought to a shop for a PPI so it’s looking like a waste of time. I do appreciate all the comments from the board, thanks again

Here is the car in question.

That is a really shady ad.
1. RUF built cars are RUFs, not Porsches.
2. I doubt that RUF would allow those gay decals everywhere, Ferrari horses, Porsche emblems, all mix & match...
3. Obvious counterfeit ID sticker..
4. Why go on, right???
I would stay very far from this fright pig...;-(

I would contact RUF and see if they have any records. I have heard they keep pretty good records on cars they have built. Generally on a Euro car they dont have that door jamb sticker unless the company that did the federalization added it and many did not. I have 3 Euro cars that dont have them.
