87 carrera tire size? ... don't shoot!

Dont hang me on a tire question.... I searched already with varying answers.
My 87 targa has 7 & 8 x 16's fuchs. Last year I bought kumhos in 205/55 and 225/50 as temporary tires.
I want to buy bridgestones poles or 750's in the widest I can fit .
I have the front lips rolled already with -1 camber....about, and no plans for track use. I don't want to rub, and am due for an alignment.
Is 225/50/16,
and 245/45/16....my answer??

245s are sweet on that set up, I have that as well. I was not able to get the 225s to fit the front on 7s. They rubbed, but at the end piece of the bumper, just after the bellows. When I turned in, the tires hit that edge.

Other guys have done it, but it may take trimming the sheet metal to do it......

Hope it works for you though

225/50's on 7's up front can produce some rubbing, either on the fenderlip above the tire or on the inner wheelwell. Alignment and camber will have some effect also.

Does anyone have rolled fender lips and 225's rubbing on the front?
Does -1 camber sound ok?
I believe I have 1/2 right now, but planning alignment.

I tried 225's on 7"rims on the front, lips rolled. Rubbed, especially if you hit a dip while turning. My car is a little low, height and alignment can make some difference. I couldn't get it to work with 225's on my 85. I ran 205's front, 245's rear.
See if you can try some 225's before you buy- each of these car are different. I know you want to get the 225's under there, but they don't fit on most cars.

I need it man.
Maybe at -1 camber it can clear the lips. I also sit a little high now. Not rally high... just not low.

I have 225s up front on 7s. My camber is at the negative "threshold" for factory spec (sorry, don't know what that number is off hand). Lips are rolled.

I was getting interference at the top of the fender well on the driver's side before rolling the lips and alignment.

My front sits at 25"... the rear is at 24 1/4" with 245s on 9" wheels. never any problems in the rear.

I run 245/45 on the back with 9's and 225/45/16 on the front with 7's. The lower profile (45) provides additional clearance to prevent any rubbing. It's an unusual size that's only offered in a few models (e.g., SO3s)

'78 SC (essentially same as Carrera) with 245x45-16 rear (never a problem at the rear) and 225x50-16 fronts with no rubbing, this car has rolled front lips and 1.25 deg neg. camber. However, as I'm sure you know every car is slightly different and not all tires are the same (even if they are all "225"). The 225 designation can vary (IIRC) as much as 7/8" in width from one brand to another. Just as a data-point I'm using Kumho 712's on my car.

I have 225/45/16 on 8" 951 fuchs up front. Lots of negative camber and 22 torsion bars and 27 sway bars. Many of the problems can be elimiated with tightening up your suspension. It is the upward wheel traved that can cause gouging the tire on the wheel lip, especially on turns. I can fit 235/440/17's up there also no problem.

I have found suspension makes a big difference. I run standard 7 & 8 x16s with 225/50/16 up front and 265/45/16 in back. It is a track car with slightly rolled fenders. I am running 1 degree of negative camber in back and 2.5 in front.

Most people use the 944 8x16 (951 offset) on the front when running a 225, keep in mind a 205 and a 225 are opt for 7 and 8 in wheels, which is what i run with kumho MX, my instructor loved my car at the DE. I still had to roll my front left fender.
