3.2 Exhaust dilemma
Just got my 87 Targa worked on by my wrench , who informs me that I have a cracked left heat exchanger. Not really a problem because I wanted to change the exhaust anyway. Right now I live in NJ, but next month I am moving to Santa Monica. What would be the best solution for increased performance, passing smog and not completely killing my bank account? I will have the work done in LA, so who should I go to ? any help would be appreciated.

NJ to Santa Monica???
I don't think you are allowed to move there with a car -- aren't you required to trade it in on a bicycle, or at least a Segway? Anyway, you might try TRE if there is nothing closer. My bet is that to meet CARB, you will need to go stock. I sold all my '86 exhaust (except for athe crosspipe) but you might start looking around. Or maybe it's time for that 3.6L swap... As a DMD, your bank acct. ought to be impervious... (?) Anyway congrats on getting to the Left Coast - once you get the car settled in, you will appreciate it...

I was going to go to TRE. I hear they are really good. As for a 3.6, I just dumped 2500.00 into the 3.2 so I think Ill keep it for a bit.
Impervious bank account? not quite yet, hence the move to SaMo. If I stay stock, that means getting a new heat exchanger, which I would rather not do unless I am gonna keep it.

You can get used ones - there are people like me out there (who buy a full 3.2L engine and strip off the intake & exhaust, then sell them to help pay for carbs and SSIs.)

I would not worry about any problems. I hear the west coast will soon fall into the pacific. Florida on the other hand will be lost to hurricanes.
Have a good trip

Best bang for the buck on a 3.2 is a euro pre-muffler / cat by pass. Find a cheap stock HE and then put on by pass pipe. That way you can swap the cat in for smog check.
