LA/OC/SD (SOCG) May 28th Ortega Highway Drive/Weigh In and BBQ
Ok its time for you guys with the Porsches that have been sitting in mothballs to pull them out because here is the May plan and it should be a blast.
Date: May 28, 2005 Time: 7:30 am leaving (Meet anytime before that) Start Location: Starbucks on Ortega Highway Finish Location: Motion's House for a BBQ The plan: Cruise over Ortega Highway with the group, u-turn in Lake Elsinore and return up to Antonio Pkwy and take the canyon roads up to Placentia for a weigh in at Schorr Metals - cost $3.00 per car for total weight, for axle weight $10.00 per car. This place is right near Al Reed's. Maybe we can swing by and do a group shot for Al with all of our nicely polished wheels. Then after weights return to Motion's house (thank you for opening up your home) for a BBQ returning around lunch time. Here is a map for those that would like to see the route in advance. The total distance is about 118 miles. If you would like, you are welcome to join at any part of the journey just be sure to check in and out with someone to make sure we don't leave anybody behind. Also this is a group cruise, please obey all traffic laws, rules etc and drive at your own risk.

Great job Chris. I'm in. Any chance we can get in touch with Al Reed ahead of time. I wanted to meet him anyway.

un-solicited advise: if you are stopped by a officer of the law...."yes officer i was obeying all the traffic laws and driving safely." otherwise: like i think i read motion say, "drive the snot out of it."

I am tenatively in as well.
Just a thought why do we post the route on the web? Most car clubs and forums do not post the route, we are just inviting the cops/CHP to come ticket us. We could just PM all the details such as time and directions.

We don't break the laws when we drive, so we have nothing to worry about. Yes officer, that's right. We obey all traffic laws so there is no reason to look for us.
There, that should do it. BTW, Ortega is always watched by law enforcement very carefully and the fact that this will be held on a Memorial day weekend will probably mean even more presence. Anyonew who wants to take chances will do so at their own risk but we all know that no one in our group would do such a thing (see above)

We get a little spirited on these runs, but we dont get crazy.... Just imagine running a little over the speed limit, and going a little faster around turns. In fact, most of us look down on people trying to show off or drive dangerously. There is usally a pace car, and he keeps everyone in check. These events are really more about hanging out with other Porsche nuts and seeing some cool cars.
I've been on runs before where the cops simply waved at us. I've also been pulled over before to simply chat with the cop, he turned out to be a car nut, and told us to keep it safe. |

Guys, don't worry about bringing anything. Ralph, fish would be great! I'll have burgers and chicken breasts on hand as well. And chips, watermellon, assorted beverages, etc. We're covered!

I was thinking the same thing about a friendly bump but you beat me to it. Good thinking Richard. Also like the title in your signature, I may have to follow the pace car driver lead.

I'm going to try and make it, but I have relatives flying in that day, so it's 50/50 at best. Could you provide an address for "Start Location: Starbucks on Ortega Highway". I'm not too familiar with the area and was thinking a search for Starbucks on Ortega might yield more than one.
I don't believe Al Reed works most weekends. Perhaps an appointment might be necessary.
