Adjustable WUR
Another quick one.
I have made an adjustable WUR per the post on this board. Seems to work but I get a bit confused. When the engine behaves difficult when cold do I knock the pin further IN or screw it OUT? What happens when you knock it to far? michel |

Q: When the engine behaves difficult when cold do I knock the pin further IN or screw it OUT?
A: You must measure the control pressures to determine whether the plug goes IN or OUT. You DID measure the pressures before you "adjusted" the WUR, didn't you? If you are just now "adjusting" the WUR after doing the modification, then you need to start measuring the pressures right now. Q: What happens when you knock it to far? A: Too far in and the control pressure will be too low, resulting in rich mixtures. WAY too far in and you will also make the "warm" pressure be too low, with the same rich mixture. |

Thanks. I admit I did not measure before (and did not even now). I just looked at a measurement set as I want to do more and understand better. However. What do you think about this. I knocked it in and the car runs like a charm. I get 14.7 AFM at warm IDLE (no idea what the AFM is at load). Pulls great no hesitation all the way to redline. I only hear in second gear a light backfire in the exhaust not the airbox... At Idle the mechnaic tells me the CO is 1.2% and within spec. Could it be I knocked the pin dead on? What are your thoughts (knowoing ofcourse measuring is better)... ![]() Michel |

Sounds good.
What year is your car? Do you have a CAT, a DME? Do you need to meet any emission requirements?

It is a 1982SC ROW, no CAT.
Emission norms in Belgium for this car is 3.5% So actually I think I am doing quite good, but I have no frame of reference.... BTW I also have a 1991 Miata with CAT and the bloody thing gives 2.6% with the CAT and 1.5% without...go figure. I have always found this emissions thing has got some black magic to it... Michel |

Michel,
You can try raising the CO to near 3.5% via the mixture adjustment screw. That ought to give you a little more horsepower, keep your temp a little lower, and it might make for easier cold starts. On the other hand, if the car seems fine where it is, your fuel mileage will be better @ the leaner mixture.
