Rotor and Cap question.
I replaced my ignition wires on Saturday and WOW, what a difference! Better everything! Anyways... When I took off the rotor cap I noticed the six copper contacts and the rotor "blade" had a dark gray/black residue which I guess is caused by friction over the years. Everything still works fine but I can't help but think the contacts should be clean. Would fine grain sandpaper be ok?
Thanks, nik.

You can try that as a temp fix but for the price of a cap and rotor ( under $20.00 ) in my opinion you should just replace them. You can keep the set you have as a emergency spare. I recently had an ignition miss on my car and replaced the cap and rotor, the old set I took off had what you describe on the cap and rotor, other than that they looked fine.

If you can feel (with your fingernail) a step in the contacts of the cap or rotor, its time to replace.

Thanks!
Also, when I replaced the wires I didn't replace the wire that comes out of the center of the rotor cap and attaches to the cylinder shaped unit directly above the rotor because I could not figure out how to remove the wire from the cylinder end of things, it doesn't just pull out. Thanks. nik.
