Torsion Bar Size
With the added weight of the 3.6 compared to the 2.7 my rear tires now hit the inside of the fender wells when I hit a dip in the road. I am running 17" wheels and lowered the car. I did not notice the problem when I had the 2.7 in but now it is a problem. The torsion bars are the original stock ones which could be possibly be worn out. So needless to say it is time to rebuild the suspension. My feelings are that I should move up in size on the torsion bars so that I eliminate the rubbing problem, but how large should I go without making the ride too rough. The car is used for street.

I think the stock size is around 23mm? I have 27mm on a 76 but has the 2.7 in it and still rides very well, think about changing to adjustable spring plates when you change t bars, really makes it a lot less work!

Tom, we have a client with a 3.2 in his '74 which has 26mm bars and slightly lowered with 16" wheels. This car still touches the tyres on the guards at times. I would suggest for you to fit 28mm Sanders bars. In my experience, they have proven to be excellent. They are a work of art and work VERY well, without compromising ride quality too much

The stock t bars are 19 & 23mm. You gained ~100#s w/ the t/p. it would help a lot if you provided the wheel widths and o/s as well as the tire makes & sizes.
You stock t bars could be worn, if you change them do front and rear, I would also change to adjustable sways "while in there"

Thanks for the responses. My wheel sizes are front - 17x7.5 with Yokohama AVS ES 100, 205/50WR17 and the rears are 17X9 with Yokohama AVS ES 100, 255/40WR17. I have Carrera flares on the back. Any more help would be appreciated.

you do have the stock motor right? not something where you stripped the intake/computer/exhaust off for lighter pieces?

Randywebb,
I now have a 3.6 in the car. I do still have the 2.7 in my garage. Tom
