Pricing help

After swearing to never do it, I have decided to part with my 1982 930. A ride on a 997 last week did me in, and I just signed a contract on a new 997 Twin Turbo of my own. I’m dumbstruck in more ways than one. Something needs to go to make room, (2 car garage) and the 930 is the logical choice. Never though I would see this day….

Having said this, I am in dire need of pricing help. The 930 has been a weekend plaything, with more upgrades (i.e. money) put into it that I care to think about over the years. Mechanically the car is a 10, cosmetically a 8.5 or 9.0. Big ticket upgrades, all of which are documented, within the last 8-10K miles are:
-documented engine rebuild, Andial 3.4 liter kit, (15K receipt included)
-transmission rebuild, with clutch. ($2100.00)
-RS style interior, one piece racing seats.
-suspension rebuild (t-bar, ball joints, bushings, shocks,)
-brake rebuild (seals, lines, MC pedal cluster)
-fuel system overhaul

Car was originally rosewood metallic, since repainted guards red 8 years ago. This was a proper re-spray ($9200.00 receipt attests to this) leaving no indications there was a color change. No rain, no snow, car has averages 3-4K miles a year since I’ve owned it. Paint is very nice, a 8.5 or 9 in my picky book. Needs to be clay bared and waxed to really look showroom.

RUF wheels installed by prior owner, along with Pireli P-Zero’s which are in great shape. Car has always run factory boost, I have a dyno sheet around with A/F ration after the rebuild which attests to the conservative setup. Never been on the track, Drivers ed or autocross since I’ve owned it. I doubt the prior owner ever drove the car hard either, since it was a total status symbol for him. (i.e the receipt for a tail-light bulb replacement)

What it needs:
-AC recharge. The R-12 refill from 2 years ago is low. Rotary compressor already there, and the receiver dryer is only 2 years old.
-rear wiper does not work. I’ve never investigated it since it didn’t matter to me.
-auto heat is disconnected due to a bad temp sensor, manual heat works fine.
-tiny chip in one of the rims from a curb
-tiny scratch on drivers side fender into the primer. 1-1.5 inches long
-antenna sticks a bit on the last 3 inches of retraction
-drivers side door switch (for interior light) needs replacing.

What is a fair price for such a car? I have every receipt since I’ve owned it, and most of the major ones from the prior owner going back to 1987 or so. Even have a certificate or authenticity from Porsche for what that is worth. My mechanic tells me the car is worth more in parts, and offered to part it out for me, but I hate the though of cutting up such a nice car out. In parts he tells me 30K is easy, I’m thinking 26-28K as is. Is this reasonable or am I out of my mind?

Vin

I'm definitely no expert, but I would say your 26-28k estimate would be about right if you can find the right buyer. If you just through it on ebay or put an add in your local paper, I would guess somewhere closer to 20k.

has anyone actually sold one of these cars on ebay?

After wasting my lunch hour looking, there seems to be very few cars that are actually sold. Do most deals commence outside of ebay or something?

give me a few days, I'm in the iddle of scanning in work orders and PP order sheets as part of a documented webpage. I'll be sure to post a link once things are complete.

I think 26-28,000 would be very fair. The only down side I could see is that since they didn't make a US model 930 in 1982, smog could be an issue for some buyers, i.e. California buyers.
