Can you guys can bring me up to speed on the ins and outs of the 74 911 Targa.
Any information to help me make a quick buy. Any known links to go to? It has a blown air box, so I can not get a test run. Thanks in advance |

Ask Kurt. He knows these pretty well, I think. I'd like to have one myself.
Good Luck Pat

74, has a one year only WUR NLA. Early style heat, early style exchangers, narrow body, should be chrome trim, 11-blade fan was stock which in conjunction with no cats helps these survive longer than the later middle year cars (or at least that's my theory). Doesn't have the full zinc coating, has a mag tranny w/ 7:31 R&P and the tallest 5th gear used in a 915 box. CIS is very basic w/o any of those later accessories such as AAR etc, has hand throttle to hasten warm-up. Should also still have the early style seat mounting, I think.
EDIT: should also have the 74 style (also Euro style) bumper extensions in back, the slim ones. Much better looking than the SC/Carrera style IMHO. Last edited by klaucke; 06-20-2005 at 04:54 PM.. |

With out knowing the condition of engine and 915 box it's a hard call for the value, owner thinks it's got 230 or 330 on the engine, i'm thinking with that amount of miles it must have had some major work done thru the years and it still might have some life. Any thoughts on value, how to check for the worst?

wow, that's some kind of serious mileage good for that 2.7! sounds like our friend klaucke nailed it. there's basically two stock engines: a 150 hp, 8:1 compression basic model (mine) and a 175 hp 8.5:1 's' model..torque is equal on them both. i've driven both and feel (seat of the pants) that my model is quicker off the line, the 's' is quicker in the higher power bands. arguably you can't do better for mid-year popularity than the '74.

Value? With those kind of miles, assuming it still runs (although maybe a little rough around the edges) and drives, and the body is solid, I'd say 3-4k. But, it all depends on condition of everything, because the cost of small issues adds up fast! Rcaridimos, let me know if you want me to go take a look at it with you! I'm going to the cape about every weekend.

J. Klaucke, I will be taking a good look at it this Wed. and looking for more info. This weekend I'll be heading out to Hersey, for the big event, never been. My wife and son are thinking about the chocalate. The folowing weekend is the 4th, if your heading down that weekend let me know and I'll try to set up something for Sat. July 2nd. or the week after. I don't think the car will be gone before that.
Thanks
