Crashed one, bought another!
Many of you saw my thread about my previous '86 911 Coupe being crashed and eventually sold. Well, it's been long enough, we've replaced the '86 with an '87! :)
The car is a 1 owner, lady driven, CA car. Original engine, no rebuild, 127k miles. Interior is damn near perfect. When I originally saw the car, I thought "Repaint!" because the color was extremely faded and the car was just dirty as hell. Tree sap, dust, and Lord knows what else, everywhere. It has a Momo steering wheel with some signature on it, I'm going to end up replacing that with a 930S ASAP. After that I'll look into lowering and some new wheels. I'm not sure if this is US spec or Euro spec height, maybe you folks can educate me. It looks like US spec to me. Anyways, here is the car *BEFORE* wash/wax: http://www.unixville.com/~moazam/myA...edfaded911.jpg Now, *AFTER* wash/wax: http://www.unixville.com/~moazam/myA...1/fullshot.jpg Rear quarter panel: http://www.unixville.com/~moazam/myA...11/rearqtr.jpg Interior: http://www.unixville.com/~moazam/myA...1/interior.jpg Signature on steering wheel, what does that say?! Anyone wanna buy the steering wheel? http://www.unixville.com/~moazam/myA.../signature.jpg The car goes in to the shop tomorrow for oil change, valve adjustment and general checkup. Once everything checks out and any needed work is done, the car is on the way to Miami to my brother. He paid for it, I just picked it out. I've been trying to convince him to forget the whole Porsche thing and I'll buy the car from him, but he's not hearing any of it...ah well. Maybe he'll get tired of it in a year or so! |
I'll buy it. (streering wheel that is) Email me a price.
Car looks great. Good find. The signature is Jackie Stewart. |
i'll take that momo if it fits a '70T

mo, is this car for you? or is it going to florida? either way, SWEET! you are a waxing, washing animal.
DAMN, didnt you have a red ducktail? |
not to ruffle any feathers, but that is a really cool steering wheel. I'd keep it. (you can pick up a 930 wheel anytime, anywhere)
|
Nice car. You know you have Carrera sport seats in that car don't you?

The car is at the shop today. Looks like it'll need a new clutch ($$$!). Lord knows what will be said about the engine, although it feels very strong. The lowering will end up being 24.5/25 and the original Fuchs will stay. Bob@RMG convinced me not to replace the Fuchs unless I'm gonna go with wider/bigger Fuchs. |

Nice find...it's amazing what cleaner wax and a lot of buffing can do to neglected original Porsche paint.
I assume you got a really good deal on it? Feed our curiousity...we all love bargain finds. :) |

M,
NICE! I LOVE those seats! They are a good find. Also, Bob @ RMG is the best! Couldn't be at a better shop....... Hope to see you soon :) -Chris |

So, anyone wanna buy an '87 that needs a top-end rebuild? Otherwise one of the guys at RMG will buy it from me in a day or so. |
Ironic ! I just took that very same wheel (signature kinda faded the same) off my 73 ! I was going to toss it but it's it nice shape.. What's it worth ?
Oh yeah, th epoint is - it fits an early car too, obviously... But you need the momo adapter too. (a good thing for your driving position as that brings the wheel a tad closer to you and further away from the dash) |

Since you're gonna sell the car, wanna swap seats +$$? I've got a '86 w/ blk seats.
email me thanks mike |
Hey, that looks like Jackie Stewart's signature. I think he use
to race for Ford before he joined Wide World Of Sports as a commentator. Did he ever race Porsche's? Cool to have the wheel, though - he was a top racer back in the day... Nice 911! :D |
Moazam,
I was just over at RMG this morning talking with Dan, I am sorry this car turned out like this. You can absolutely trust those guys for sure, they are first rate all the way around. I can't tell you how many times they have gone above and beyond the call for me. Sounds like you will be taken care of one way or the other. -Chris |
Hi all. I'm new to the boards here. Not new to the Porsche community though. SmileWavy I work at RMG.
I purchased the car from Moazam. Currently the engine is out of the car and under repair. Heres leak down of #1 cylinder. Its good! http://www.heinys.com/Carrera/DSC05612.html Heres #2 @ 80% leakage. http://www.heinys.com/Carrera/DSC05608.html Heres #3 with about 65% leakage. http://www.heinys.com/Carrera/DSC05610.html #4 is excellent. http://www.heinys.com/Carrera/DSC05609.html #5 isn't looking so great at 73% leakage. http://www.heinys.com/Carrera/DSC05611.html And finally #6 which ended up with the best leakdown. http://www.heinys.com/Carrera/DSC05607.html |
Thanks for the pics and welcome aboard. I need to mess with the parking brake on my 82SC in the near future so those close-ups are helpful. Chuck

No problem at all. I am glad the hand brake pictures were helpfull. I will try and keep the gallery updated as I progress on the car. We only work four days a week. (shop time) I will work on the car Fridays and Saturdays and keep taking pictures as I go. I replaced the oil lines to and from the oil thermostat tonight but thats not worthy progress. Hehe
More later. Dan |

Likewise, detailed pictures like this are helpful for me too.
Thanks; Scott |
Weekend #2 has been a lot of work on the car and it is progressing well.
Thursday nights job after hours was to rebuild the sunroof and install the correct steering wheel for the car. . I installed the 930 tierod kit and bought the tires. (Bridgestone S-03) The wheels and tires are currently at Custom Alignment and will be ready Monday morning. Fridaywas spent finishing up cleaning the rest of the engine parts, installing the new engine insulation pad, and servicing the chassis. All day Saturday was committed to re-assembling the engine. Its all done with the exception of the sheet metal and installing the muffler. The sheet metal is out being powder coated and should be ready early this week. I replaced the cams, rocker shafts, rocker arms, swivel feet, and locknuts. All of the valves were replaced. All of the machine work was done by Ted Robinson of German Precision. He's the man! For those of you that like pictures and want to see the progress. http://www.heinys.com/Carrera Till next weekends update..... Dan |
Cool Synchroid! So you're basically giving it a top-end job only? I'd like to see your leakdown numbers afterward. I also see you gave it a good steam clean...I wish I had a place like that near me. You will have to post pics when she's all done!
|
This was a lady-driven 911? Hmm - a lady who drives a 911, ordered sport seats, added a Momo wheel, and apparently drove it hard enough to tire out the top end.
Was she hot? |
Maybe she was back in 1987. :D
|
99% done with the car now. I took last weekend off for some needed rest. Two things left to do. 1. Four wheel alignment with corner weighting. 2. Install new sound system.
The photo gallery has been added to. Sorry they are not in perfect order. http://www.heinys.com/Carrera Here is the list of stuff done to the car since July 1st. http://www.heinys.com/Carrera/DSC05749.html

R&R power plant
Rebuild top end of engine
Replace complete clutch and ring gear
Replace engine compartment insulation pad
Replace front and rear hood shocks
Replace front and rear brake rotors, pads, and sensors
Repack front wheel bearings
Replace hand brake shoes
Replace broken brake fluid reservoir
bleed brakes
Replace both fog light lens and install euro tail light lens
Rebuild sunroof
Evacuate and recharge A/C
Remove "butt ugly" steering wheel and install correct wheel
Complete chassis steam clean
Replace both oil lines to and from oil regulator
Install 930 tie rod kit
install rack spacers
Replace main engine fuel lines
Powder coat sheet metal
Have all door dings removed
Install chin spoiler
Lower car to my liking
Replace all shocks with Bilstein HD
Replace tires with Bridgestone S-03 Potenzas
Smog check
And last but not least...drive the darn thing!
|

Thank you very much! http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pint1.gif
I think I am falling in love with her. Now I just need to come up with a good name for her. Time to sit back for a bit and enjoy it. |
I have basically the same car. I'm gonna have to drop by RMG and check yours out. BTW, I saw on the RMG site your into q3, haven't played that in ages ... I used to run a q3 server named ALOTTAFAGINA, pretty popular server back in 2000. That was when I was at Netflix.com and had a 6mb pipe into the house paid for by work ... ahh the good ol' days.
|
I should probably update my RMG profile. I still like Q3 but have not played it in about a year. No time! Maybe when I get my new computer finished (if ever) I'll load it up again and see how rusty I am. The new box has a 3800+ AMD CPU on an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo with two 74 gig raptor hard drives. All I need to do on that is throw down on two very expensive graphics cards and some memory and that project is done. I am enjoying the current project more. (the car) The wife is more approving of me spending my time and money on the car then a gaming computer.
If you swing by the shop, I am there Monday - Thursday. Going on vacation the week after next so I won't be there then. (Aug. 7th) |
