Another one of my fellow cops killed

I hate to post this.....another one of my good friends was killed in the line of duty today. He and I were good friends and boxed on the police team. I have known him for more than 15 years. I just talked to him last Saturday as we talked about Father's Day. The circs are unknown and the suspect is still outstanding. It just is not fair.........

David

david-
my condolances. i've several police/sheriff friends and have seen what this kind of stuff does. also with firefighters.
what utterly aggrivates me is that pro ball players who whine about being tested for steriods earn millions a year.....and ultimately...what do they truly contribute to society? nadda.
i've yet to meet a police officer who earns six digits a year, let alone seven. seems to me that putting your life on the line every day you 'suit up' should get a little more recognition.

the thing you need to do is talk to your fellow officers; if there is a widow, give her as much support as you humanly can. past that, keep doing your job because there are some of us civilians who truly appreciate what you do.

Very sorry to hear, my condolences. Best wishes to the family and friends. Hope they get person(s) responsible.

I'm sorry to hear it - I know this is hard on you... Best wishes to you, to the other officers, and to his family.

The news just released his name so I can post it. Jerry Ortiz working the Gang Enforcement Team out of Lakewood Sheriff's Station. He was married 3 weeks ago.........The suspect is known and right now there is a containment set up around the area.

A very sad, sad day. David

Jerry Ortiz

So sorry, I saw it on the news down in Hawaiian Gardens. Sick gang trash with guns.

ras911 06-24-2005 07:03 PM

Thanks for all you guys do. Condolences...............

They never show police funerals on TV, but so-called "police brutality" scenes are on every night. What a tragedy.

rrpjr 06-24-2005 07:06 PM

Horrible news. I'm very sorry. I've met many LA police in my K9 training and have gotten a sense of the thankless, dangerous job they have. But I wouldn't presume to know the half of it.

Oh Haha 06-24-2005 07:23 PM

Condolences to you and the officer's family. I hate to hear news like this.
Bugs the crap out of me.
Be safe out there, David.

Condolences all around David. I heard about it on the radio while driving today. My heart sinks when this happens...it's just wrong.

"Deputy Ortiz was shot and killed after knocking on a door during an investigation.

He had gone to the home to speak to a woman as part of a gang investigation when an unknown person came out from the residence or a nearby apartment and shot him in the head, killing him.

Deputy Ortiz had served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for 15 years and was assigned to the Anti-Gang Unit. He is survived by his wife and two children."

:(

There are no words that can express our sorrow for your loss.
So very sorry to hear it.

oY!
gang enforcement...i know fellows in topeka who do the same.

i worked for ten years with juvenile delinquents, a vast majority of them being hooligans, ne'er-do-wells, hoodlums, thugs, ruffians, etc. this is where i'm torn david, some of those kids are really pretty decent kids, just drawn to 'power' and 'toughness' in the wrong damn direction. for all those years i did my best, truly. for some of them i made a difference, while for others they were too far gone.
maybe blind faith in the system for the younger punks is a good course of action. that's YOUR challenge for here on. for the older ones, for those ****es pulling the younger ones into it....well...you know better than i what to do.
i've seen how iron-clad some of those gang type folk can be. but i've also seen (when i really played my cards right) that they were just scared and lost little boys.

you hang in there david. tell the newlywed widow that people she doesn't even know are pulling/praying for her.

Very sorry to hear that..Condolences to the family
