Question A/C Opinion

I'm looking for opinions on the best money spent on an A/C upgrade.

My 84 A/C is stock, R12 and blowing about as cold as it can. Recent charge, and replaced a leaking hose. I have a Kuehl center vent.

I'm wondering if I do one thing this summer should it be Kuehl side vents $160 to get more air in the cabin? Or a procooler, I think $300 to hopefully cool a few more degrees? But I just want to do one upgrade this year.

Has anyone installed the Kuehl side vents? How easy?

Or is there another suggestion for under $500?

Thanks

You are in Cal. Remove the aircon, lighten the car, go faster, and roll the window down.

For true AC, upgrade to the 964, or later Porsche.

Put a fan and condenser in the front left fender. They key to good a/c is increased condenser surface. Parts should be about $300.

I drive my car every day, It's no fun stuck in traffic on a beautiful, sunny 85 or 90 degree day.

I agree with yelcab1.

Spend 3 or 4 thousand bucks and buy a Toyota Corolla with which to commute daily. You just will not get a decent A/C in a pre-964. Any old Toyota will feel like a sub-zero by comparison.

Pat: Some of the guys here on the board use a 993 (996?) condenser and fan assembly. Do some research and you'll be able to figure out which one. Most of the used parts places like www.partsheaven.com should have one. You might also check eBay.

I bought an aftermarket unit from Here's a picture. See the two washers and nuts near the bottom and on the right side of the picture? Those are long screws holding a fan on the other side of the condenser.

Thanks Scott, that condenser just looks expensive, I'll check with iceac tomorrow.

And .... I really appreciate the suggestion that I should drive a Toyota. I didn't say I commute, I said I drive my car everyday. You commute in a Toyota, or a turbo look alike or whatever, I'll drive what I like.

Pat: I think I paid about $300 for the kit from Ice AC.
