I would suggest that a minimum weight after the race equalizes the different years. The only real advantage of an early car is the lighter weight, and as much as you might like to think weight distribution does not have that big of an effect, atleast based on our experience. In practice most of the under weight cars, myself included, run some ballast, and extra fuel, but can still get out driven in a later car if the skill is there.
