Cig Lighter / Make a constant?

Yesterday I purchased a Tom Tom GPS for my 911 and it uses the Cig Lighter plug for it's 12v source. At the moment the power is only on at the plug when the ignition is switched...so the GPS does not work when I stop and turn off the car. Now it's not really a big deal but the HP iPAQ will stay on and it's battery will drain until the unit turns off. Ok...so what would be the downside to having a constant voltage to the cig lighter plug? BTW: the GPS unit mounts real nice to the old clock space, it comes with a disc that mounts to it perfectly. Well worth the 300 euro!

the only downside I could think of would be , you forgetting to unplug your GPS and draining the battery. My cigarette lighter always has power even when key is off...the previous owner must have re-wired it for some reason, but I don't have any problems w/battery drain, or anything else for that matter.

yes the HP will turn off, but the GPS cradle/unit remains on so a slight draw of power would exist.
