fogged over speedo

No I am not talking about the swimsuit you wear. Just trying to get the glass on my speedometer cleaned from behind. Seems a little moisture over time has fogged it up a little and was wondering how to get the glass off to clean it. Any suggestions?

Not sure if it will work, but you could try the hair dryer trick. Take the gauge out and blow some warm air into the gauge, it may help demist it.

It’s an old trick I used a long time ago. Might be worth a try!

I had a similar problem, but it turned out to be my leaking windsheild, after the repair, they dried out, eventually!

kg911 doesn't need to demist the speedo, he needs to physically clean off the haze that has been left on the inside of the glass after hundreds of mist/demist cycles. As far as I know, the only way to do that is open the speedo by carefully uncrimping the bezel that holds on the glass--easy to do--and clean the inside of the glass by hand.

Been there!
Remove the gague. Using a SMALL blade screwdriver, un-crimp the bezal on the back of the gague all the way around (very thin gague metal). Carefully pop off bezal and glass will come out. Clean and replace. Use bigger screwdriver to re-crimp bezal around back of gague.

The instructions on the prior link are what I used. Piece of cake!

Good Luck!

What helped me was to go around the bezal with electrical tape then a large hose clamp to hold it while un-crimping it, The crimp is so tite it tended to spring the whold bezal on mine.

kg, you probably know it by now, but removing the gauge from the dash is about as simple as opening a coffeecan. The speed is held into the dash solely by the grip of the rubber ring behind the bezel. If you have strong hands and tough fingernails, you can literally sit in the driver's seat and pull the bezel toward you and pop the speed out. If you're liek me, you use a butter knife or something of the sort to carefully pry the instrument out, using the bezels of the next-door instruments as fulcrums. Fulcra???

You may want to treat the inside with anti-fog to prevent future problems. Also may be able to stuff in one of those silica packets that comes in pill bottles to dehumidify.

Ditto this trick. Easy to tell the gauges I did this to on humid days...
