*NEWSFLASH - 17" RUF wheels
They are available again in 17"!
Talked with Wayne: http://www.rufautocentre.com/contact/index.asp and they may be in in about as little as one week. This time it is true.....he has samples of 8, 9, and 10s at the shop right now. I've got a set of 9s and 10s for road use at $2995 on 'hold' |
I've called them a few times and got no return calls. In fact I only spoke to various voicemails. Is there a secret extension I need to try?
|
just keep trying.
Remember, they only have to sell one car every three months to feed their families. |
I emailed him a few wks ago, and he mentioned the 'pending' availability of these wheels. i have a set of 8,9's on 'hold'.
I'm not holding my breath, as i had a set on 'hold' thru Weissach a few months ago, and that production of RUF wheels by Speedline fell through. Hope it materializes this time. Mike '86 coupe |
Iīve been waiting since March for my 7" and 9" from Germany. Next week has been the timetable for months now. Then I told them please confirm delivery for next week or I will not take at all. Letīs see what happens.....
Originally I also ordered thru Weissach, but due to delays they jumped out. Kris |
just sold my set of used 7x17 and 9x17 Rufs for $2000
they are in HOT demand |
I'm still after a set...but with limited cash on-hand. In a couple of months though I'll be ready...
|
Update........1 month away acc'd to Wayne at RUF in Dallas.

Who knows how much these weigh? I still love the look of these...
Jeff |
Probably 30 lbs each :D
|
Craig911--your 930 would look killa with these ruf wheels. Love the deep lips of the 10's---too bad they wont fit on my narrow body.

Heh, they are indeed 28LBS EA

Craig -
The set I have for my 930 actually are the narrow body wheels... only 7s and 9s. Also it looks like you have a good lead on new ones. Let me know if you are still interested. |
....I love those wheels... but..
GOD DAMN, $3000.00 for a set of HEAVY AS YOUR MOM WHEELS.. Where is the benefit beside bling?? They're just simple 5 spoke wheels.. are they forging them in lead to keep the radio waves down? I would hope that RUF would figure out a way to make really cool, strong, LIGHT wheels for early cars.. I'd need a yellowbird ctr to run those wheels, otherwise I wouldn't be able to get out of my own way. :( |
I agree with eskimo, if I have to shell out that kind of paper for wheels being lightweight is imperative.

Nice but heavy. Problem with these wheels is that they are sooo expensive. You can get a set of Fikse or Kinesis WITH new rubber for that kinda of coin. Plus save about 15lbs of unsprung weight per corner.
Most people don't realize the difference when they first put them on. But after you drive the car with those leg irons on for a year or two and then take them off and replace with something half the weight you will wonder what the hell you were smoking when you laid out all that coin for them. I can see paying $$$ for nice looking, lighweight, 3 piece modular, high performance wheels but - these only fill one category of which the 5 spoke look RUF is getting a little dated IMO. -Jeff |
I still like mine and will likely hold onto them as a second set with street rubber for the inclement weather months... the other 9-months of the year I run my Fikses with DOT-R rubber (even on the stree).
Before anyone points out that I am from Chicago and probably have my 3-month / 9-month split of bad / good weather reversed I can explain... .... I am a very sick man when it comes to this car. |
The 17 inch Ruf Speedline wheels are not heavier size for size than many cast Porsche wheels.
This is a tired old refrain. Aftermarket three piece wheels are not 15 lbs lighter, and most certainly not half. The wheels are expensive because they are exclusive, and not like every other wheel commonly available. For some people, that is reason enough. Craig has a dedicated set of Kinesis track wheels, and wants a period correct, aesthetically pleasing to him wheel that complements the styling of his car to use on the street. |
