*NEWSFLASH - 17" RUF wheels
They are available again in 17"!
Talked with Wayne: http://www.rufautocentre.com/contact/index.asp and they may be in in about as little as one week. This time it is true.....he has samples of 8, 9, and 10s at the shop right now. I've got a set of 9s and 10s for road use at $2995 on 'hold' |
I've called them a few times and got no return calls. In fact I only spoke to various voicemails. Is there a secret extension I need to try?
|
just keep trying.
Remember, they only have to sell one car every three months to feed their families. |
I emailed him a few wks ago, and he mentioned the 'pending' availability of these wheels. i have a set of 8,9's on 'hold'.
I'm not holding my breath, as i had a set on 'hold' thru Weissach a few months ago, and that production of RUF wheels by Speedline fell through. Hope it materializes this time. Mike '86 coupe |
I´ve been waiting since March for my 7" and 9" from Germany. Next week has been the timetable for months now. Then I told them please confirm delivery for next week or I will not take at all. Let´s see what happens.....
Originally I also ordered thru Weissach, but due to delays they jumped out. Kris |
just sold my set of used 7x17 and 9x17 Rufs for $2000
they are in HOT demand |
I'm still after a set...but with limited cash on-hand. In a couple of months though I'll be ready...
|
Update........1 month away acc'd to Wayne at RUF in Dallas.

Who knows how much these weigh? I still love the look of these...
Jeff |
Probably 30 lbs each :D
|
Craig911--your 930 would look killa with these ruf wheels. Love the deep lips of the 10's---too bad they wont fit on my narrow body.
mike |
|
Heh, they are indeed 28LBS EA
|
Craig -
The set I have for my 930 actually are the narrow body wheels... only 7s and 9s. Also it looks like you have a good lead on new ones. Let me know if you are still interested. |
....I love those wheels... but..
GOD DAMN, $3000.00 for a set of HEAVY AS YOUR MOM WHEELS.. Where is the benefit beside bling?? They're just simple 5 spoke wheels.. are they forging them in lead to keep the radio waves down? I would hope that RUF would figure out a way to make really cool, strong, LIGHT wheels for early cars.. I'd need a yellowbird ctr to run those wheels, otherwise I wouldn't be able to get out of my own way. :( |
I agree with eskimo, if I have to shell out that kind of paper for wheels being lightweight is imperative.
Yasin |
Nice but heavy. Problem with these wheels is that they are sooo expensive. You can get a set of Fikse or Kinesis WITH new rubber for that kinda of coin. Plus save about 15lbs of unsprung weight per corner.
Most people don't realize the difference when they first put them on. But after you drive the car with those leg irons on for a year or two and then take them off and replace with something half the weight you will wonder what the hell you were smoking when you laid out all that coin for them. I can see paying $$$ for nice looking, lighweight, 3 piece modular, high performance wheels but - these only fill one category of which the 5 spoke look RUF is getting a little dated IMO. -Jeff |
I still like mine and will likely hold onto them as a second set with street rubber for the inclement weather months... the other 9-months of the year I run my Fikses with DOT-R rubber (even on the stree).
Before anyone points out that I am from Chicago and probably have my 3-month / 9-month split of bad / good weather reversed I can explain... .... I am a very sick man when it comes to this car. |
The 17 inch Ruf Speedline wheels are not heavier size for size than many cast Porsche wheels.
This is a tired old refrain. Aftermarket three piece wheels are not 15 lbs lighter, and most certainly not half. The wheels are expensive because they are exclusive, and not like every other wheel commonly available. For some people, that is reason enough. Craig has a dedicated set of Kinesis track wheels, and wants a period correct, aesthetically pleasing to him wheel that complements the styling of his car to use on the street. |

It all comes down to personal preference.
"Weight" On the street.....does it matter a whit? Nah. I like 'em, I'll buy em. |
Well, if someone wants a set for narrow body without having to wait....pm me. Oh yeah, be ready to pay; no bargains here. Exclusivity and availability have a price...
|
This e-mail received from yesterday. Ordered today, finally.
"We are pleased to announce we now have all Ruf 17" Classic Wheels in stock! If you are still interested in purchasing a kit of these wheels, please let us know and we can gladly put your order together for you." |
From who?
|
why anyone would buy close to 30lbs wheels for $3000 confuses me...I like the RUF product line, but these weights are NOT good for a stock setup 911 that wasn't meant to have these types of weight on them...
|
Seems we've been down this weighty road before
|
Because they like them is reason enough. Don't like 'em? Then don't buy 'em.
Some people actually drive and enjoy their cars instead of analyzing everything to death. And suggesting the chassis can't handle them, puhleeze..... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1122049338.jpg |
AMEN
See you at the track Monday |
I've been lucky enough to get to try both the heaviest wheels (Ruf) and the lightest (Gotti).
There is truely a performance difference. The car is much more nimble with the Gottis. And I personally love the way they look (I know they arn't everyone's cup of tea). But there is a high price to pay for the lighter wheels. When they are tuned and running true they are wonderful, but every couple of hundred miles, or a pothole on the road, whichever comes first, they (the front) have to be rebalanced. On the other hand, I've put thousands of miles on the heavier Ruf wheels and they never need attention. So these are my preferred wheels for street driving. Just my .02. |

RUF Wheels
Finally today I got the package from Pfaffenhausen, Classic Speedlines 8" and 9"*17". Yeah. The RUF front is painted ready to be fitted. Then I have a complete RS-interior waiting and new seats.
I also got a steering wheel from RUF. Kris |
Let's see some pics Kris - !

Heavy wheels throw of your suspension, bad for braking and accelerating. People should pay some attention to wheel weight.
Porsche's are road going race cars, you don't see F1 cars with heavy wheels. Just my opinion, leave the bling to the esclades etc. |
Sounds like you are pretty knowledgeable about cars, mojo.
Tell us more. Or not. |
I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know my *ss from a hole on the ground when it come to the finer points of wheel selection and weight variances.
Anyway, I would like to comment on calling these wheels "Bling"; I would have to disagree with those statements. These wheels are not "Bling", instead I would say it’s a "Status" thing to have the Ruff wheels as to any regular non PCAR person they are just 5 spoke wheels, not very attractive against any other wheel per say…elegant yes and simple in form but what regular person will really appreciate it beyond that? That being said w00t! for uber status points when your sporting your Ruff wheels and for the guys who have the ponies to pull the extra weight..cool cool! ---Bill |
Amen.
I bought em because I like em. For street wheels, they work just fine.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1125093429.jpg |
Craig, They look Bush league, I don't think they look good at all!! You should sell them to me :D
|
Nah, you don't want those weighty pieces of crap.
They make my suspension all funny n stuff. Selling them to an Escalade owner, ya know ;-) -------------------------------------------------------- With 5mm spacers up front, 10 mm rear - grip length on the studs were long enough to use regular ol hub-centric spacers w/o bolts: Before: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1125094111.jpg Post spacer: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1125094207.jpg |
Well Craig
I see you don't like people to disagree with your opinions. You like to post jokes and make fun of them. Fair enough its the internet, sorry if I affended you. |
