Altering gear ratios ???
Hi all, just wondered if anyone can point me in the right direction on altering gear ratios in a 915 transmission?
What I'm looking for is to alter 2nd gear, because it just doesen't have enough legs for some corners when on track. If i I change down to second it just seems to be screeming on the edge of the rev limit. Would like to get a bit more speed in 2nd (say 75mph) in order to get a bit closer to 3rd. Also 5th gear seems a bit too high and I would like to get the 5th ratio down a bit closer to 4th. I just seem to be using 3rd and 4th most of the time and although my engine is very torquey there's just not enough umph at low revs in 3rd to pull out of some corners. Any recommendations, hints and tips would be very much appreciated.

You mean besides buying the gear sets and installing them?
I think Bruce Anderson's book has a list, and there are a couple of vendors that sell the gears. Look in Excellence. Tom |

You're describing a close-ratio set of gears. In my car, I have a taller 2nd, stock 3rd, short 4th and short 5th. It's a joy to drive on a track, although cruising on the highway at 4000 rpm (for 80mph, in 5th) is the trade-off.

Thanks for that Jack - that combo looks good for me and the trade off wouldn't be a problem.
