How to access center console: '86
I need access behind the center console plastic panel. This is the plastic panel that includes the AC knobs and hazard switch. Does this panel 'pop' out, or do i need to remove screws on the sides attaching the whole leather(ette) floor mounted center consoloe?
My alarm LED is mounted next to the AC knobs, and i need to change the LED. thanks Mike '86 coupe |

Mike,
you shouldn't have to unbolt the console from the floor, but you will have to remove the 4 side screws holding the back cover on the console. Then, remove the 4 screws on the sides that hold the controls in the console. It will be very difficult and maybe impossible to remove the controls far enough to replace the LED without disconnecting the switches from the wiring bundles, but it might be worth a try. If you DO have to disconnect things, the procedure becomes more involved. |
thanks. just the info i need.
btw anyone use the 'new' COLD solder guns available now? How well do they work? I believe the tip remains cold until activated to solder, then reverts to cold immediately after/between uses. I may have to solder a new LED in place. thanks mike |
