new member. '86 911 ignition coil question

Hey everyone,
I am finally in a great performing reliable sports car. I say this with enthusiasm due to my last cars being a Maserati Merak ss and a Maserati Bora. Both were fantastic cars but were riddled with 1970's Italian technology issues( putting it nicely). I worked on the cars myself and without a doubt know every square inch of those cars now(rebuilt engines and rewired both). I am glad I am done with that mess. On to my question.

I noticed the black stock bosch coil is not the most high performance coil available yet works pretty well with the cd system. I was wondering if I could upgrade the ignition coil to say one of Bosch's "red coil's" or perhaps a Mallory coil made for electronic ignition. Anyone have experience with this? I really want to avoid damaging anything so I thought I would ask first.

Regaurds,
J Spelic

DME is not CD. Do not mistake the plain jane appearance of the stock coil, it has enough punch to fire off my plugs gapped at 0.060" without a miss.

Cheers,

Joe
