ac/idle problem

i have a 1982 911sc in great condition. our temps for the last few days have been over 105 deg... hot! when i turn my ac on i get good cooling (good?) but i have a problem when i come to stops. when i press my clutch in to stop the engine from pulling me and cost to the stop (this is usually with in a few feet of the stopping point) the rpm's will drop so low that the car dies and has to be refired. If i turn the ac off the problem goes away.
i had one of my techs check and adjust the idle speed and the mixture settings on our smog machine and they came out great. i then replaces my decel valve thinking that it must be defective or very weak, the problem has not gone away.
im now thinking its the compressor that may have failed. what else could it be? how do you check to see if the compressor has to much drag? my compressor is the rotary style converted to r134a. any ideas?

too much r134a? seem to remember if it's "overcharged" it can cause this.
