Price Reduction for 996 Accident
A friend is the market for a 996 cab. He found one he really likes -- very sharp. 25,000 miles, tiptronic, factory carbon interior kit, ground effects kit installed by dealer, full leather, aftermarket stereo, amp and speaker boxes. Dealer said he knew of no accidents or bodywork (other than the go-fast add-ons).
He entered into a contract with the dealer, subject to 100% clean PPI. You guessed it. The PPI turned up that the car was in a minor accident that does not show on the Carfax -- fender and bumper were replaced. The PPI guy said the repair was done very well. There is no sign that anything other than the fender was replaced or repaired. Sounds like a pretty minor fender bender. Anyway, he still wants the car, but wants to negotiate a proper price reduction. Thoughts from the Board on what a fender-bender does to the value on resale? My gut reaction is $2K to $3K. Other opinions?

If nothing was affected pemanently and the repair is of top quality and undetectable I'd say the price is not affected.
That doesn't mean I wouldn't try negotiating down. Any leverage is good leverage.

Although the paint may look good now, it will probably fade over time and become detectable. Negotiate as much as you're able...

I would consider this from another direction also.
You have your nice original paint, 35k miles, everything just the way you want 996. Someone comes along and bends a fender and bumper. Everyone assures you it can be repaired and repainted properly. How much “diminished value” would you seek in addition to the repair cost? 5%, 10%, more of the value of the car? Best, Grady

if it is from a dealership, i believe they will negotiate for a lower price, since now they have knowledge of the accident, they must disclose it to any future buyer (although some risk it and dont) or run the risk of being sue'd

List the year of the cab and what the price is and I'm sure you'll get some more input.....

Thanks for the advice everyone. He bought it, got $800 off and is happy as a clam. A new Porsche-phile is born.
