911 aluminum S caliper rebuild ?

regarding early 911S alloy calipers:

Is the large O-ring that goes into the back cover plate available seperately?

I replaced mine at rebuild with the correct size of generic and then on saturday had it go out again.

I was told that I need viton to hold up to brake fluid, and that my generic broke down due to fluid exposure...

Is this available without a full kit?
what have other people done?
anyone know where I could get one, or even what size to ask for?

tia

They were NLA from Stoddard when I tried to get them a few years ago. Let us know if they have them now, or if you find another source for them.

I just found a set of Al calipers for about $150. They are totally complete, down to the rubber bleeder covers and, if you can believe it, the pistons are in great shape. My mechanic is replacing the available seals and they're going onto my 912! He said they are the most complete, clean S calipers he's seen since the 70's! I'm excited.

I would be surprised if those kits contained the O-ring seal under discussion, can you verify that? The kits I have gotten contained the piston seal and dust cover, but not the seal for the rectangular plate on the back of the caliper.

update:

Tom, your in luck.
Stoddard has the O-ring again
They sell the basic rebuild kit without the O-ring, but they recommend to every purchaser that a 4$ O-ring be purchased with every kit.

I bought 3 o-rings, so that I'll have a spare for next time.

thanks guys.
snap them up while they are available.

The original seal in the car was some innertube cross section looking piece which I doubt we will ever see again. On my first set, I got some regular black o-rings from my rubber supply place, which after many abusive track miles, looked fine, but there were some shards of o-ring in the cylinder when I took it apart for inspection, I figured it was sliced off the o-ring when the cover plate is bolted on. Although I found no other damage to the ring, I think someone might look for a viton ring just to be safe, but, I have had no problems with the old rubber? ones.

If it's still available the repair kit 901.351.998.00 used to supply the correct seals
