Elgin or Web Cams in 3.2
My engine is getting an early Xmas full rebuild. It was leaking so much oil the EPA began sending me letters. Plus the broken head stud was a constant reminder of potential doom. So after the shop opened it up we decided to do a top and bottom rebuild. Now do I go ahead and get the cams that I've been reading about for the past few days (there are about 250 pages of cam info under the search button) or skip it. From all the posts Elgin and Web seem to get high marks for the price. The car is almost a daily driver, has a MAF system, and will get to see the track again for DE duty now that the head stud is repaired.
BTW, the head stud did not result in any damage even after driving for 3 years. The K&N filter on the MAF seems to have kept the engine clean after 100,000 plus miles. A few rod bearings were scored, pistons were cover in carbon (I'll very carefully glass bead blast those Monday) but all in all the engine was in much better shape than I thought it would be. Even the clutch looked good after 60,000 miles but the flywheel needs to be resurfaced since it shows some wear. The valve and cam covers, get blasted and painted in silver (VHT paint) along with the fan and housing. I know I'll get lots of powder coat comments but to lazy. The cat BP also gets some VHT paint. The original muffler will also get blasted but I'm thinking of replacing it with a Flowmaster model named the Hushmaster (weighs less than 10 lbs versus 30 for stock) unless I hear some don't do it comments. Any other suggestions would be very welcome. I'm sure one comment will be, "shoulda put in a 3.6". Thought about it but just can't swing the extra few thousand.

I would recommend Camgrinder (John Dougherty). He reground my SC cams to 964 profile. Did a good job and turnaround time was excellent.

Guys, I sent an email to John to get his input on the cams and also on the performance springs to increase RPM redline. If I should go for a higher RPM redline I'm guessing I also need to use different connecting rod bolts when I have the engine put back together. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Guys thank for the recommendations on using John. I talked to him this morning and shipped the cams to him this afternoon. Now I am a happy camper. The thought of spending all this time and money on a rebuild and not getting any new HP didn't make me happy. Now I am a happy camper.
I spent the afternoon bead blasting the fan, shroud, alum cam, and valve covers. Painted them silver tonight along with the cat BP. Also bead blasted all the carbon off the piston tops after taping the sides to protect them and keep the grit out. All the exhaust system parts get cleaned and polished or painted over the next few days. Should be back together and on the road late next week. Last item to sort out is a new muffler. I'm leaning toeards have a shop take a Flowmaster on in on out muffler called the Hushmaster II. Weighs about ten pounds and costs $100.
