Help I need hinge guru's

My hinges ( top of doors ) are very sloppy. I replaced the pins but the hinge that is welded to the door is worn. My car is ready for paint and I need a quick answer so I don't slow down the paint job. Does anybody know the answer ? I tried our host for some form of bushings but they don't carry them. Thanks in advance Steven.

GT racing makes hinges with bronze bushing which are used to mount their glass/carbon doors.

Maybe you could use these with the stock doors.

you should be able have a machine shop make some bushings. Are you sure the pins are not worn and not the hinges?

The upper hinge is not welded. It is riveted to the door. Teh lower hinge is integral to the door frame. The pins can be pressed out and the body side will unbolt. This will allow you to separate the hinges and look for wear.

YOu should be able to detect where the wear is by rocking the doors and thus make a decision on where to make changes to correct the slop.

Call Stoddard for the bushings. The pins are much harder than the bushings, so they are not apt to wear. Take them out and check them with a mic.

Your local dealer should carry the bushings. The bushings will need to be reamed and filed to fit once installed. You will need an 8mm (if I remember correctly) ream to do the job correctly.

Not my local dealer. They had to order a sump plate gasket for my 2.2. A sump plate gasket?? this means they haven't even changed oil in a 911 air cooled in a while, eh? Or they would have if I would have been stupid enough to stand there while I could be on the phone with Pelican and half way there by the time the dealer finished the paperwork and took my money.

(OK, we have had this discussion many times before. So don't everyone talk bout dealers) Stoddards is special. Owned by the factory, I'm told, and keep a lot of hard to find parts.

afaik Stoddard was married into the family and his shop was one of the early dealerships in the US. Maybe even the first. If any US dealership gets the factory's attention Stoddard does imo.
