Forgive me Porsche god for I have sinned
I have been looking for a new daily driver with all the modern comforts. I have been looking and have always wanted a 993. But for the past few weeks I can't seem to overlook the Infinity G35 Coupe.
Now, I know it doesn't stand close to the 993 in performance, but it is just a great looking car. And it has been the only car, besides the Porsche's, in the past 10yrs that I have liked, and can afford. I haven't driven one yet, but I'm sure for the street it's got to be a great performer. They will both end up costing about the same mid 30s. Someone in my neighborhood has one that I look at everyday coming home. Please convince me to keep looking for the perfect Porsche. Buying the G35 is just too easy, just a trip to the dealer, the 993 is a little more difficult.

I wouldn't say it doesn't stand close in performance.
G35 Review In fact I wouldn't bet against it beating a 993 considering you can get one with close to 300 HP. The G35 is a sweet car. I don't blame you for wanting one. It's hard to compare a new, technologically advanced Japanese sports coupe as a daily driver vs an aging, albeit fine, classic. I know which one I would choose as my regular transportation. |

The G35 is probably the only Japanese car I'd consider owning. But with a 911 of some sort in the stable as well. From what I understand the G35 is a 350Z in civilian clothing.

I think there is more hype around the G35 than there should be. It is a modern $30K car. By porsche 911 standards, it's very cheap. I find the plastics are cheap - mold lines are visible everywhere. The interior is just way to retro for me. Its just a plane jane mass produced car that the marketing folks at nissan say is a sports car.
The 993 however, is another level of car. It's constructed of the highest quality materials and is an evolution of the first 911. It's the last of its kind, a sports car that happened to be mass produced. Even at 10 years old it's still an amazing performer. Practically, no one needs either, so why not step up the the very best!

The G35 is awesome ! Ask me how I know . I just put a borla system on for the wife .
And no , the 993 does not out perform the G in any way except looks and status . Go for pearl white exterior / willow interior . Then a set of 3 piece deep lip 18" wheels . Dont forget the rear spoiler . Kurt Williams

My buddy recently bought one and I wasn't impressed at all. Plastic everywhere and looks like a clone of everything mixed together. I know it's stats are decent to 60 in 6 sec and decent handling but if not the 993 and for even a few less sheckles you could have a loaded 300C with a Hemi that in my eyes the G35 cannot compare. I told my buddy about the car but he didn't look into it and made an impulse purchase on the G35. We've both taken a hard drive in one since and all I can say is my bud is bumming big time and all I could say was I told you so. The G35 2 door is yes, snappy looking but the 4 sedan is just cookie cutter.
Get the 993 and if not take a ride in a 300C Hemi. The G35 might just be a distant thought after that. Good luck either way. My 2 pennies.

I drove one at the track. I wasn't impressed at all. Heavy and soft.
(Then again, my daily driver isn't a Porsche, so I can't judge.)

The aftermarket stuff is flowing for the 300C like everything else. Suspension, ign, exh, wheels. I'm sure one could snazz it up easily. It's bigger and heavier yes although I don't think their intention was for a nimble driver. I thought the G35 was loose and sway's alot. Seats left much to be desired as well.
Or were you talking about the G35 or the 993 Jack?

This should be an easy choice. The G35 will be worth half of what you pay for it in 5 years and the 993 will be close to the same price as it is now. Save yourself a bundle and buy the 993.

I don't like the G35. To me it looks just like all the other boring Japanese cars. I don't care how it performs. I wouldn't, couldn't ever have a love affair with a car like that.
You shouldn't need us to convince you. Ask yourself which one you're more likely to regret not getting if you go for the other one. |

You are forgiven my son. Say 4 911's, 2 GT3'S and go 4 the 993.

i'd never chose the g35, nor even the 350z, over a 993.
if you want even more refinement, than for the price of a fully spec'ed g35 you could have a first generation 996.

Armando,
You already have a 911 track car. This is a daily driver, for crying loud. It has a real cold AC. It can take abuse all day sitting in traffic without moving AT ALL and have cold air. Repair bills are lower(I don't know when is it necessary). The 993? Fork out the bucks soon. What are you waiting for. I don't drive a Porsche daily. Thank goodness for that, sometimes I wish I did. You want an all around performance car as your daily grind. You want to be able to corner hard and have the power to get out of trouble, or do both just the hell of it. I think the g35 or similar is that car. Ok, you are getting older, comfort, comfort comfort. As for resale value, do you buy a car to sell or do you buy to use and keep? Buy it, use it, abuse it, and when it breaks fix it and sell it. The G35 ain't gonna break. I am in the process of getting my sister to buy it instead of a BMW 325. Buy the G35. Are you gonna be able to drive your track car to and from work and the market, plus dinner with your wife for only 2 week straight? If the answer is no, then the 993 is gonna to feel a bit better, but you have to do it everyday. I get the tip tranny on the Infinity. This way I can have a burger and talk on the phone at the same time while looking at the Thomas guide that's sitting on lthe plastic dash doing 50 in a 65 zone. good luck. Jeff |

I think the G35 is one of the more tastefully styled cars out there. Better execution of design than the Cayman and unique compared to most of the other look a likes. (Honda, Toyota, Mercedes, yadayada)
It has plenty of performance for a daily driven street car and if it's anywhere near as dependable as a Nissan I used to have then you can't go wrong. That damn car just wouldn't quit. I just got sick of looking at it. The only downside I've seen with the G35 is the finish. They seem to be built as disposable cars. The paint and interior just don't appear to have longevity in mind. I think that's with all the new cars today however. Even Mercedes which used to set itself apart from the Japanese cars in this respect is now no different. Paint just isn't what it used to be. If you've got to have a "new" car then I don't think you could go wrong with the G35. Personally, I just don't ever see a need in buying a new car again for myself.

Mate it looks like a wannabe Maserati from the front and a Ford Cougar (UK coupe) from the back.
Admittedly I liked the 350Z that came out but when I dusted one on the way to LeMans last year in my 84 immaculate concours 928 S2 I thought, 'Damn, Porsche make fine cars'. I think that the car you are looking at is cool for high milages and daily abuse as a hack, but the 993 is first class all the way. My 911 isn't the fastest, quickest car on the road, but its other qualities that make it the very best among all cars that maybe on the road with it. I know that guys with EVO8's and Subaru's can beat me off the line and in top speed when unrestricted and even round the twisty stuff, but the 911 delivers so much more. 993

Which one will offer the best warranty ? If you still want performance find a 350Z track version . I think the Nissan/Infinity will offer the better reliability and lower overal cost but what really matters is what you want to set your butt in every day .
