Need offsets for widened steelies
Im going to send a set of steel wheels out to be widened. Ive read that stockton wheel can do this so I will call them first. Who else can I call about this? Harvey Weidmen, maybe?
2nd question: Are these suitable cores for widening? Im assuming they are all 15" spares. These are all I need, right? Will steel hubcaps work with these wheels? ![]() 3rd question: What offset/backspacing do I need to request for a '72 with standard flares? Its got to be close to a 7R offset, maybe bigger. 4th question: If you have pics or wheel specs for widened steelies, please post them. TIA Here are some pics. These are 16s, but you can see where Im going with this. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Shuie, search on www.spyderclub.com. Some guys there had an axe to grind with Stockton service (though he has removed most of his posts). Anyhow, there is another company that does the work for close to 50% of what stockton charges, which I think is close to $200 a wheel.
I had but sold a nice set of 15*7 and 15*9 widened steelies for $300 a couple of years ago. http://www.petepaulsen.com/ Good luck.

Widening is costly! How about new? 16X8, 16X10 or 16X12? Custom offsets. That are about $100 each!

I am positive that someone found a barrel source, removed the center of a porsche wheel and welded it to what ever barrel that is, looks to be a wide front wheel drive barrel, Kevin

They probably use a Chevy Barrel, at least that's what the ones I had were.

Shuie,
According to this http://home.arcor.de/s-g-e/radga.htm the offset for the steelie 15x6's is 41mm. Widening is just like a 6- to 7R, there's a thread on the racing forum that goes through the calculation in detail. Good luck! This is going to be very cool.

Thanks everyone!
Souk, $100 sounds perfect, but i need them in 15x7 and I need them to use a porsche hubcap. John, thanks very much for the scan. thats great info. I called Harvey Weidmen yesterday and he says he knows the offsets that i need. He said that he uses Stockton to widen the wheels and that i could send the wheels to them instead. I think Im going go through Harvey. I dread an offset miscommunication resulting in wheels that dont fit. Harvey has done this a million times and Im sure they will be perfect when they come back from his shop. I'll keep you guys updated |

Thanks Bill!
The 911R offset was my first thought, but Id be lucky if all i needed was a set of spacers when i was done 'figuring out' my own offsets ![]() I dont remember the offset Harvey told me, but he didnt mention needing spacers or longer bolts. He already has all this stuff figured out. Thats why I'll send them to him. |

Ed, Souk sells these through his company, Motomotions.com. I have 2 sets of 16x10s and 16x12s that I run on my SCCA GT-2 911 RSR spec race car. They work great!

Can't wait to see how those turn out Sherman.
And to keep this thread more to Sherman's topic..."atlporsche," you can go to this thread. Scroll down. You should find all the information you need, including a link to the thread in the racing forum. WTB: 16" track wheels |
