Toyo Proxes and snow?
Anyone ever drive Toyo Proxes in light snow? I am leaning toward these as a year-round all weather tire.
In North Carolina we get half-a-dozen days of light snow or ice a year, so I would be curious if anyone has an opinion about how these tires do in snow. I am somewhat limited in tire choices as my car has 16 x 9's in the rear, and most popular winter tires, i.e. Blizzaks, do not come wide enough.

It would help if you named the specific Proxis tire you are considering.
PROXES 4 and TPT don't come in a size for 9" rim either FZ4 could be used, I suppose, but it's not a very suitable H/P tire the rest of the time.

I haven't used either in the snow but the proxes 4 has a mud and snow rating where as I don't think the TS1 does.

The Toyo's are about 0.9 inches taller because they are 50's instead of '45's, and I was thinking that this might not make a significant difference in driveability.

It appears to me that max performance may not be your #1 priority. I can't tell you what to do but I would use a full set f/r of winter tires on separate rims. But for ~6days park the car and get a ride from someone better prepared. It seems foolish(to me) to hobble the car for so few winter condition days

2005 will be my first winter with this car, so I think I'll just see how it goes.

What he said. You're crazy to dismount/remount tires on existing stupid-wide rims when what you really want is good snow tires on narrow rims, jack 'em up, bolt 'em on and be done with it. You do have a floor jack, right?

I drove my FZ4s about 10 snow days a year and a half ago and I thought they did fine for my situation. It was only 5 miles to work and top speeds were about 30mph. I don't think I would have taken them any faster though. Zach
