shift nob question

So, I was driving around last night and i guess i shifted into second too hard, because my shift nob ended up not being attached to the shifter anymore. My question is, how does the nob attach? I can't seem to figure it out.

Congratulations. Not sure about your year, but earlier versions use a friction ring. You managed to overcome friction without destroying the knob. Those who wish to remove their gear shift knobs should contact you.

LOL, i guess so. It seems to have some grooves both inside the knob and on the shifter, like something was in between the two, but i can't find it in my car.

Try looking inside the knob - sometimes the crush rings hide in there.

Getting the knob back on over the crush sleeve is nearly as difficult as getting it off. I just fought that battle.
