Project *PICS* - on ALL FOUR, back from corner balance early RSR look

OK - here are some of my latest project pics. I've driven the car about 30 miles since the corner balance. It is quick, powerful and ready for an event. Jae at Mirage International did a fantastic job!! As you can see, it is VERY low. Front fenders at about 24". Corner balance revealed the car weighs 2180 lbs (w/ 1/4 tank of fuel, full oil and minus driver weight).

I've got some details to share about the rear suspension redo, but that will take longer to post. Will share those updates at some point.

That looks sweet!

(Although everyone's always got a suggestion, right? Here's mine: you could run the flexi oil lines through the rockers.)

Is it going to be a street car, occasional track car, or full-time racer?

That is a really nice car you've got there - kind of reminds me of Jack's car. That car should be a monster canyon carver!

That looks awesome! Be careful that the rear wheels don't bottom out onto your nice fenders under hard cornering! I see it happen all the time in my local club.

Jack-
Good suggestion, all comments are appreciated! I had been steered away from that due to the fact that if they ever develop a leak, I'd be in a pickle (or at least a mess). Not sure if that is true, but the advice was offered more than once, so I opted for the conservative, but less aesthetic route. Maybe I'll redo it when I get everything dialed in. If I run out of projects.

I plan to learn to autoX and then move into DE, occassional spirited street driving. Camber is pretty aggressive, zero toe upfront. This is not a daily driver, nor will it be and setup very aggressively by Jae, as far as suspension settings. The complete suspension is Mike Gagen's old setup, except for the ER bushings at four corners and Tarrett monoballs upfront and ER monoballs in the rear. I bought the torsion bars and custom valved shocks, and F&R Tarrett sways lock stock and barrell from Mike. I did have the front bilstein struts modified (raised 30mm) by 911CTS on this board.

With the Steve Wong chipped 3.2, SSi's and MB911 muffler it goes like a scalded dog and sounds like a wailing banshee.

Scott & Jack,
Thanks for the kind words and your interest!

Doug

Very nice looking car. The paint seems to glow. I've got an appointment to see Jae on Friday for a little ride height adjustment and corner balance myself.

BTW, which lift is that and are you happy with it?

Nitrometano,
Do you have any closeup photos of the lines' entry and exit? That would be very helpful!

Very nice Doug!

The paint is amazing and the suspension set-up give the car a very menacing look.

very nice.

A few questions:

Who refinished those amazing looking wheels for you?

what size wheels are those?

Who's fenders are you using? I assume they are glass, correct?

JMZ-
The flares are turbo, done in metal.

The wheels are Lindsey's 17x 9.5 front, 17x11 rear. The wheels do look great, but they stain very easily. They are simply media blasted and left with a blasted AL finish. I am concerned that brake dust will ruin them. I may have them frost anodized. I may also try a satin clear coat first. I don't have much to lose at this time. Every greasy fingerprint shows, even if you clean wiht brake cleaner or lacquer thinner.

125-
I agree with you. I did the lines as clean as I can. They are not obtrusive, but not as clean as others, either.

ALL-

Thanks for your interest!

Doug

Doug,
Car sits very nice. I saw it at Jae's over the weekend.
Doug is a real DIY guy. Nice job!

I'm expecting you'll have a great time at the AX and track events. With my (Mirage's) track proven combo of T bars, revalved shocks and sway bars. Combined with the fact that your car has more tire and is 200lbs lighter than mine was should provide miles of smiles.
Make an AX date I'd enjoy helping you set the sway bars and get you flying fast.

I didnt check your rear tire to fender clearance but your suspension is pretty stiff. Still find a place where in second gear you can really pitch it left and right as hard as you can. Go home and see if the tire has touched anywhere on the inside of the fender. Do this with a big passenger in the car, just like it will be when you have an instructor in the car with you. I would suggest Jim Copp around the corner. Tell him I suggested him.
This should get you by at the AX.
If does touch just tell Jae and he'll raise it.

When I had my car reaaly low I once had tire clearnace problems through the California speedway NASCAR 14 degree bank at 135mph. The outside was really loaded and bubbled the paint, dont want that!

When you go to the big track you would really enjoy a 3.8 wing with a raised element. Jae has a couple in shop you could check out.

Eventually consider a second set of track rims for R rated tires. With all the mount and balance and track rash you might not want to take a chance at damaging your perfect street rim set up.

You are gonna be thrilled when you get that car on the track.
When is your first AX???
Is Steph ready to enter too?
She could share the car with you.
