Disassembling Seats

I'm considering taking my '81 seats apart in order to ship them. I haven't done this before however and would probably want to avoid it if it is a pain to reassemble so as not to cause the buyer too many problems.

On the tunnel side of the seats there is a very large flathead screw which I assume can just be unscrewed. On the door side there is the recline adjustment knob. I can't readily see how to dissasemble this side? There is also the cable that connects the seat backs with the base (to achieve the recline control). Can this be disconnected & reconnected easily?

Thanks

The recline knob center should pop out to reveal three screws if memory serves me. If you look closely you should see a small notch in the edge of the center portion that you can slide a small flat blade screw into to pop it out. Go slow as you can mar the plastic if you pry too hard. It should just pop right out with only a little pressure. Then the knob turns and pops off the back plate. The cable has a retaining nub on the end and if you look closely you can pull the cable down and slide it out of the clip on the underside of the connector lever. The large flat screw on the other side of the seat just unscrews. It might be in there pretty tight and also may have some loctite on it. Watch for the little spacer/washer that are between the pivot points of the seat so that you don't lose them. All this is from memory so it might be slightly different but I''m pretty sure this should do it for you.

Dan Owens is correct. I just refinished my seats. I used a large heavy bladed paint scraper to get a good fit on the large flathead screw.
